Regatas Corrientes left Mercedes with a hard-earned 79-70 road win over Comunicaciones in a Club Friendship fixture that offered both squads a valuable early test of their rotations. The visitors controlled the game for long stretches, answered every Comunicaciones push with a run of their own, and closed out the final two minutes with poise from the free-throw line.

Match Overview

Regatas set the tone early with disciplined half-court execution and a defence that forced Comunicaciones into difficult, contested shots. The visitors led at the end of every quarter, building a working margin of roughly ten points through the middle of the game and then holding firm when the home side made its inevitable surge.

The nine-point final margin slightly flatters Comunicaciones, who trailed by as many as 15 in the third quarter before a late flurry trimmed the gap. Even so, the closeness of the fourth quarter — won 17-16 by the home team — underlined how competitive the matchup became once both benches emptied.

Key Moments

• First quarter, 4:20 remaining: Regatas string together three consecutive defensive stops that turn into transition points, opening a lead they would never surrender.
• Second quarter, 2:00 remaining: A pair of three-pointers from the wings push the Regatas advantage into double digits at the break.
• Third quarter, 6:30 remaining: Comunicaciones cut the deficit to five with their best stretch of the night, only for Regatas to respond with a 9-0 run.
• Fourth quarter, 1:45 remaining: With the lead down to seven, Regatas convert six straight free throws to seal the result.

Tactical Story

Regatas won this game on the defensive end. Their help rotations were quick, they closed out hard on Comunicaciones' shooters, and they consistently forced the home side into late-clock situations. On offence, they leaned on ball movement and inside-out passing, generating open looks from the perimeter and second-chance opportunities on the offensive glass.

Comunicaciones, by contrast, were at their best when they played through the post and attacked the rim. Their third-quarter run came when they stopped settling for jump shots and instead drove into the paint, drawing fouls and kicking out to open shooters. The problem was consistency: every time they built momentum, a turnover or a missed box-out handed it straight back.

Standout Performers

Regatas got balanced production across the rotation, with their starting guards dictating tempo and their interior players finishing efficiently around the rim. The bench provided a meaningful spark in the second quarter, extending the lead while the starters rested. For Comunicaciones, the frontcourt pairing was the bright spot, combining for a large share of the team's points and keeping the game within reach deep into the fourth quarter.

What It Means

Friendly fixtures like this one are less about the result than about what coaches learn from them. For Regatas, the win confirms that their defensive identity travels and that their rotation has enough depth to survive foul trouble. For Comunicaciones, the loss highlights two clear priorities: taking care of the basketball under pressure and improving defensive rebounding against physical frontcourts.

Both teams will take plenty from a game played at genuine competitive intensity, and the 79-70 scoreline is a fair reflection of a contest decided by execution in the small moments rather than by any single dominant stretch.
