Clube dos Galitos produced a commanding second-half performance to defeat Sanjoanense 84-67 in a Club Friendship matchup on September 19, 2026. What was a competitive game at halftime turned into a one-sided affair after the break, as Galitos used a decisive third-quarter run to seize control and never looked back.

Match Overview

The first half was a cagey, back-and-forth affair. Sanjoanense matched Galitos basket for basket early, relying on patient half-court sets and mid-range shooting. Neither team led by more than six points in the opening 20 minutes, and the halftime score of 38-35 in favor of Galitos reflected the tight nature of the contest. But the hosts came out of the locker room with renewed energy and intensity.

Key Moments

The turning point arrived midway through the third quarter. With Galitos leading 48-44, they unleashed a 15-2 run over a four-minute stretch, fueled by steals and fast-break layups. Sanjoanense called two timeouts in an attempt to stop the bleeding, but the momentum had shifted irreversibly. By the end of the third, Galitos held a 66-51 advantage.

• Third-quarter explosion: Galitos outscored Sanjoanense 28-16 in the period.
• Defensive pressure: The hosts forced 9 second-half turnovers, converting them into 17 points.
• Bench contribution: Galitos’ reserves added 24 points, providing a crucial spark.

Tactical Story

Clube dos Galitos made a simple but effective adjustment at halftime: they switched to a full-court press and trapped the ball-handler on every pick-and-roll. Sanjoanense struggled to adapt, committing costly turnovers and settling for contested jump shots. Offensively, Galitos attacked the rim relentlessly, drawing fouls and getting to the free-throw line 18 times in the second half. Their ball movement was crisp, with 21 assists on 32 made field goals.

Standout Players

Galitos’ point guard was the engine of the victory, finishing with 19 points, 8 assists, and 4 steals. Their versatile forward added 17 points and 10 rebounds, while the shooting guard chipped in 15 points off the bench. Sanjoanense’s leading scorer managed 18 points, but he received little support as the team shot just 38% from the field in the second half.

Season Impact

The win strengthens Clube dos Galitos’ position in the Club Friendship competition and demonstrates their ability to close out games with authority. For Sanjoanense, the loss highlights the need for better ball security and more consistent scoring options when their primary playmaker is neutralized. Both sides will meet again later in the campaign, and Sanjoanense will be eager for revenge.
