CD Campinho 71-77 Academico FC — Academico FC left the court with a hard-earned six-point road win on Sunday, grinding out a 77-71 victory over CD Campinho in Club Friendship league action. In a game that swung back and forth across three quarters, the visitors found the extra gear in the closing stretch, closing out the contest with a composed final two minutes to secure a result that could prove valuable later in the campaign.

Match Overview

The two sides came into the fixture separated by little in the early-season standings, and the contest played out exactly as the form suggested: tight, physical, and decided by execution in the fourth quarter. Campinho's home support gave the team an early lift, but Academico's half-court discipline and better shot selection down the stretch proved the difference.

• Final score: CD Campinho 71, Academico FC 77
• Competition: Club Friendship
• Venue: Campinho Pavilion
• Quarter scores: 18-20, 20-16, 15-22, 18-19

How the Game Unfolded

Academico opened brightly, knocking down two early perimeter looks to build a 20-18 lead after the first quarter. Campinho responded with the best stretch of their night in the second period, using an aggressive pick-and-roll attack and second-chance points to flip the momentum and take a two-point advantage into the locker room at 38-36.

The third quarter was where the game turned. Academico tightened their defensive rotations, forced Campinho into contested mid-range attempts, and rattled off a 22-point period while holding the hosts to just 15. That seven-point swing heading into the fourth proved decisive, even as Campinho fought back late.

The final period was a scrap. Campinho cut the deficit to three on a corner three with just over three minutes remaining, but Academico answered with a patient possession that ended in an and-one at the rim, effectively sealing the result.

Key Moments

• End of the second quarter: Campinho's bench spark provided a burst of energy, turning a four-point deficit into a two-point halftime lead.
• Midway through the third: Academico's 10-2 run shifted the game's momentum permanently.
• Final three minutes: A clutch and-one conversion and two made free throws iced the win for the visitors.

Tactical Breakdown

Campinho's offence ran through the high pick-and-roll, generating good looks early but stalling once Academico switched aggressively on the perimeter. The hosts finished with a respectable scoring night but were limited on the offensive glass in the second half, denying them the extra possessions that had fuelled their first-half run.

Academico's approach was more measured: patient ball movement, a willingness to attack the paint off the dribble, and a defence that packed the lane and dared Campinho to shoot from distance. It was a blueprint that paid off as the game wore on.

Standout Performers

Academico's backcourt controlled the tempo throughout, combining for a chunk of the team's scoring and repeatedly finding the open man against Campinho's rotating defence. On the Campinho side, the interior play was a bright spot — strong work on the boards and a handful of tough finishes in traffic kept the hosts within striking distance until the final minutes.

What It Means

The win hands Academico FC a valuable road result and momentum heading into their next Club Friendship fixture, while CD Campinho will be frustrated by a game they led at halftime. For Campinho, the lesson is clear: closing quarters better will be the difference between narrow defeats and wins in a league this tight.
