Sportiva Italiana Women delivered a dominant performance in the Chile Women's Liga Nacional on 18 October 2026, overwhelming Luis Matte Larrain Women 117-29 at home. The 88-point winning margin told the story of a game that was effectively decided early, with the hosts setting a relentless tempo and never allowing the visitors to settle into their half-court offense.

Sportiva Italiana scored more in the first quarter alone than Luis Matte Larrain managed across the entire contest, a statistic that underlined the scale of the home side's control. By halftime the lead had already reached 45 points, and the second half followed the same pattern as the hosts rotated their lineup without losing intensity.

Match overview

The final score read Sportiva Italiana Women 117, Luis Matte Larrain Women 29. Sportiva Italiana controlled every phase of the game: transition, half-court execution, rebounding and defensive pressure. Luis Matte Larrain were held to single digits in all four quarters, a reflection of how difficult the hosts made every possession.

• First quarter: Sportiva Italiana 31, Luis Matte Larrain 7
• Second quarter: Sportiva Italiana 29, Luis Matte Larrain 8
• Halftime: Sportiva Italiana 60, Luis Matte Larrain 15
• Third quarter: Sportiva Italiana 28, Luis Matte Larrain 6
• Fourth quarter: Sportiva Italiana 29, Luis Matte Larrain 8

The quarter-by-quarter breakdown highlighted the consistency of Sportiva Italiana's performance. The hosts scored at least 28 points in each period while keeping Luis Matte Larrain below 10 in every quarter. That combination of high-volume scoring and suffocating defense turned the contest into one of the most lopsided results of the Chile Women's Liga Nacional season.

Key moments

The tone was set in the opening minutes. Sportiva Italiana applied full-court pressure, forced early turnovers and converted them into quick baskets. The home side's first-quarter burst created an immediate cushion and forced Luis Matte Larrain into a recovery mode they never escaped.

The second quarter brought no relief. Sportiva Italiana's bench maintained the defensive standards set by the starters, and the lead continued to grow. A series of fast-break layups and open perimeter looks pushed the advantage past 40 points before halftime, effectively ending the game as a contest.

Any hope of a more competitive second half disappeared early in the third quarter. Sportiva Italiana opened with another scoring run, while Luis Matte Larrain struggled to generate clean looks against a compact and active defense. By the final period, the only remaining question was the final margin.

Tactical story

Sportiva Italiana's victory was built on defensive disruption. The hosts denied easy entry passes, collapsed quickly into the paint and used their athleticism to close out on shooters. That pressure translated directly into offense: rebounds and steals became transition opportunities, and Luis Matte Larrain were often forced to defend before their half-court structure was set.

In the half-court, Sportiva Italiana moved the ball with patience and purpose. The hosts attacked the basket when lanes opened, kicked out to open shooters when the defense collapsed and kept the offensive glass alive with second-effort plays. The balanced scoring made the final total feel like a natural product of sustained execution rather than a single hot shooting stretch.

For Luis Matte Larrain, the game was a difficult lesson in handling pressure. The visitors struggled to protect the ball, were held to difficult shots and could not slow Sportiva Italiana's rhythm in transition. Their best moments came in brief defensive stands, but they were too infrequent to change the momentum.

Standout performers

Sportiva Italiana's backcourt controlled the pace from the opening tip, pushing the ball when opportunities appeared and organizing the offense when the game slowed down. The frontcourt protected the rim, finished around the basket and helped limit second-chance points for the visitors. The bench also made an impact, preserving the defensive intensity and extending the lead through the middle quarters.

The home side's scoring was spread across the rotation, which made the performance even more impressive. Rather than relying on one individual outburst, Sportiva Italiana sustained pressure through collective execution. That depth will be encouraging as the league schedule progresses.

Season impact

The result gives Sportiva Italiana Women a significant boost in the Chile Women's Liga Nacional standings and, just as importantly, a strong points differential that could matter in the season's
