Deportivo Valdivia secured an 81-70 road victory against Puerto Montt in Chile Liga Nacional Basketball on October 21, 2026. The visitors controlled the game steadily, leading by four after the first quarter and never allowing Puerto Montt to complete a sustained comeback.

Valdivia’s balanced scoring and disciplined defense proved too much for the home side. Puerto Montt had their moments, particularly when the crowd got involved in the third quarter, but Valdivia answered each run with poise.

Match overview

• Final score: Puerto Montt 70, Deportivo Valdivia 81
• Quarter scores: 18-22, 17-19, 19-21, 16-19

Key moments

Valdivia set the tone early with efficient half-court offense and active hands on defense. Puerto Montt stayed within touching distance in the first quarter, but the visitors’ ability to score late in the shot clock gave them a 22-18 lead after ten minutes.

The second quarter followed a similar pattern. Puerto Montt found some success attacking the basket, but Valdivia’s guards kept the offense organized and punished defensive mistakes. A late first-half surge pushed the lead to 41-35, and Valdivia protected that cushion throughout the third quarter.

Puerto Montt made one final push in the fourth, but Valdivia’s rebounding and free-throw shooting closed the door. The visitors’ 19-point final quarter sealed a professional road performance.

Tactical story

Valdivia’s offense was built on patience and ball movement. They worked the ball into the paint, drew help defenders, and found open shooters on the perimeter. That inside-out approach kept Puerto Montt’s defense guessing and limited the home side’s transition opportunities.

Puerto Montt’s best moments came when they played with pace and attacked before Valdivia’s defense could set. However, too many turnovers and missed second-chance opportunities undermined their comeback attempts. Valdivia also controlled the defensive glass in the second half, denying Puerto Montt the extra possessions they needed.

Standout performers

Valdivia’s backcourt dictated the tempo and made key shots whenever Puerto Montt threatened. Their frontcourt players did the dirty work on the boards and protected the rim, while the bench provided steady minutes without allowing the offense to stall.

For Puerto Montt, the scoring load was shared, but the team lacked a consistent answer in the half court. Their guard play created some good looks, yet Valdivia’s defensive rotations were quick enough to contest most attempts.

Season impact

The win strengthens Deportivo Valdivia’s position in the Chile Liga Nacional Basketball standings and gives them momentum on the road. Puerto Montt will look to regroup at home, focusing on ball security and rebounding. Valdivia’s ability to win away from home in such controlled fashion is a promising sign for the rest of their campaign.
