Deportivo Valdivia secured a convincing 88-72 victory over Puerto Montt in Chile Liga Nacional Basketball action on October 26, 2026. The 16-point win was built on a balanced offensive display and a strong second-half push that gradually pulled the game away from the visitors.

Match Overview

Deportivo Valdivia came out with good energy, using ball movement and aggressive drives to create scoring chances. Puerto Montt stayed within reach early, relying on perimeter shooting and transition opportunities to keep the deficit manageable. The first half was competitive, but Valdivia’s depth and rebounding began to tilt the game in their favor.

After halftime, the hosts raised their defensive intensity and started to convert stops into quick points. Puerto Montt struggled to match that pace, and Valdivia’s lead steadily grew through the third quarter.

Key Moments

The turning point arrived in the third period, when Deportivo Valdivia pieced together a decisive run to stretch the lead into double digits. The surge was fueled by defensive pressure, offensive rebounds, and several timely baskets in transition. Puerto Montt called timeout to slow the momentum, but Valdivia maintained control from that point forward.

In the fourth quarter, Puerto Montt made a few attempts to cut into the lead, but Valdivia’s half-court execution and free-throw shooting kept the visitors at arm’s length. The home side closed the game with poise, never allowing Puerto Montt to turn the contest into a one-possession finish.

Tactical Story

Valdivia’s offense was at its best when the ball moved quickly from side to side. The hosts generated open looks from beyond the arc and also punished Puerto Montt inside when the defense rotated late. Their offensive rebounding was a key factor, creating extra possessions and second-chance points.

Defensively, Valdivia limited Puerto Montt’s clean looks from the perimeter and forced the visitors into contested drives. Puerto Montt found some success when they attacked early in the shot clock, but they were unable to sustain that rhythm against Valdivia’s adjusted defense.

Standout Performers

Deportivo Valdivia’s backcourt controlled the game well, balancing scoring and playmaking while limiting turnovers. The frontcourt provided a strong interior presence on both ends, finishing around the rim and contesting shots. The bench also contributed meaningful minutes, helping Valdivia maintain its energy through the second half.

Puerto Montt had stretches of effective play, particularly when their guards created penetration and kicked out to shooters. However, the visitors lacked the defensive consistency needed to slow Valdivia’s multi-layered attack.

Season Impact

The result gives Deportivo Valdivia a valuable home win and reinforces their credentials in the Liga Nacional standings. For Puerto Montt, the loss highlights the need for more consistent defensive stops and better rebounding against physical opponents. Valdivia will look to carry the momentum into their next outing, while Puerto Montt will focus on correcting the areas that allowed the game to slip away after halftime.
