Colegio Los Leones delivered a commanding 90-66 victory over Puente Alto in the Chile Liga Nacional Basketball on 24 October, turning a competitive opening into a one-sided contest at their home gym. The 24-point margin underlined Los Leones’ title credentials and gave their supporters a performance full of defensive intensity, balanced scoring and smart shot selection.

Match overview

Los Leones set the tone early with aggressive perimeter defense and quick transition attacks. Puente Alto stayed within touching distance in the first quarter, but the home side gradually imposed its rhythm through ball movement and second-chance points. By halftime, Los Leones had built a cushion that allowed them to play with greater freedom after the break.

The third quarter proved decisive. Los Leones opened with a run built on stops, defensive rebounds and efficient finishing at the rim, pushing the lead into double digits and forcing Puente Alto into hurried possessions. The visitors never recovered, and the final period became a controlled closing stretch for the home team.

Key moments

The game’s first major swing came late in the opening quarter, when Los Leones converted back-to-back steals into transition baskets. That sequence lifted the home crowd and forced Puente Alto to call timeout. Early in the third quarter, Los Leones produced another burst, this time through inside scoring and offensive rebounding, effectively breaking the game open.

Puente Alto’s best spell came midway through the second quarter, when their guards found gaps in the Los Leones defense and briefly reduced the deficit. But the visitors could not sustain that momentum, particularly once Los Leones tightened their rotations and contested every catch on the perimeter.

Tactical story

Los Leones’ success started on the defensive end. Their guards pressured the ball handler, disrupted Puente Alto’s pick-and-roll rhythm and forced a series of low-percentage shots. With the defensive glass secured, Los Leones were able to run, and their transition game generated easy points that never appeared in the half-court set.

Offensively, the home side showed excellent balance. They attacked the paint early, drawing help defenders before kicking out to open shooters. When Puente Alto switched to a zone, Los Leones responded with quick ball reversal and timely cuts. The result was a fluent offensive performance that kept the visitors guessing for long stretches.

Standout performers

Los Leones’ backcourt controlled the tempo and consistently found the right pass in traffic. The frontcourt provided a physical presence on the boards, finishing through contact and protecting the rim. The bench also contributed meaningful minutes, maintaining the defensive standard and keeping the scoring margin moving in the home side’s favor.

For Puente Alto, there were few positives beyond brief flashes from their perimeter players. The visitors struggled to generate clean looks against Los Leones’ pressure and were often forced into contested jumpers late in the shot clock.

Season impact

The win strengthens Los Leones’ position in the upper reaches of the Chile Liga Nacional Basketball standings and reinforces their reputation as one of the league’s most complete teams. For Puente Alto, the defeat is a reminder of the gap that remains against the competition’s leading sides. Both clubs will now turn their attention to the next round, with Los Leones looking to build momentum and Puente Alto seeking a response.
