Achilleas KA fell just short in a thriller at home, losing 87-90 to Apollon Limassol B.C. in a Cypriot Basketball Division A clash that came down to the final possessions. The visitors left with a narrow three-point win after a contest that swung back and forth for forty minutes, with neither side ever managing to build a truly comfortable cushion.

Match Overview

Played on 17 October 2026, the game was everything a Division A fixture between two competitive clubs should be: tight, physical, and decided by execution in the closing minutes. Achilleas KA controlled long stretches of the first half behind a productive offense, but Apollon Limassol answered every run with timely shot-making of their own, eventually edging the game by a single basket's worth of separation.

The final scoreline of 90-87 tells the story of a night where offense largely won out. Both teams shot the ball well enough to keep the game moving, but it was Apollon's ability to convert in the half-court during the fourth quarter that proved decisive.

Key Moments

• Late-game execution: With the score tied in the final two minutes, Apollon Limassol converted on consecutive offensive possessions to take a lead they would not surrender.
• Free-throw margin: The three-point final gap was built largely at the charity stripe, where the visitors were the more reliable side down the stretch.
• Achilleas' response: The home side had a look to tie in the closing seconds, but the attempt did not fall, sealing the defeat.

Tactical Story

Achilleas KA leaned on a patient half-court attack, working the ball inside and out to create open looks, and it produced 87 points — a total that would win most nights in the Cypriot league. The problem was on the other end, where Apollon Limassol's perimeter shooting and transition offense kept the pressure constant.

Apollon's coaching staff made a subtle but important adjustment in the second half, switching more aggressively on screens and forcing Achilleas into contested mid-range attempts rather than clean looks at the rim. That shift slowed the home side just enough in the fourth quarter to swing the result.

Standout Performances

Apollon Limassol's backcourt was the difference-maker of the evening, combining efficient shooting with composure at the free-throw line in the final minutes. Achilleas KA got strong production from its frontcourt, which controlled the boards and generated second-chance points throughout, but the team's late turnovers proved costly.

Season Impact

For Apollon Limassol B.C., this road win is the kind of result that matters in the Division A standings — stealing a close game away from home against a direct competitor builds momentum and confidence for the weeks ahead. For Achilleas KA, it is a frustrating near-miss: a three-point home loss that leaves the club wondering about the small details that decide tight basketball games.

The margin between the two sides on this night was razor thin, and a rematch later in the season now carries extra weight in the Cypriot Basketball Division A table.
