Shenzhen — The Shanxi Loongs Fenjiu delivered one of the most complete road performances of their early season on Friday night, beating the Shenzhen Leopards 84-68 in a Chinese Basketball Association regular-season game that was effectively decided before the final quarter.

Shanxi never trailed after the opening minutes, controlling the tempo on both ends and holding Shenzhen to a season-low scoring output. The 16-point margin flattered the hosts slightly, given how much of the second half was played with the outcome already clear.

Match Overview

The visitors built a 46-33 halftime lead and never allowed Shenzhen to string together enough stops to make a serious run. Shanxi's defense was the headline: Shenzhen shot poorly from the field, struggled to generate clean looks in the half court, and was largely reliant on individual shot-making rather than any sustained offensive rhythm.

Key Moments

The decisive stretch came in the second quarter. Leading 24-18 after one, Shanxi opened the period with a 12-2 run, mixing perimeter shooting with transition baskets created by turnovers. Shenzhen burned two timeouts trying to stop the bleeding, but the closest it came thereafter was a nine-point deficit early in the third quarter.

Every time the Leopards threatened, Shanxi answered with a timely three or an offensive rebound. That pattern repeated until the final five minutes, when both coaches emptied their benches.

Standout Performers

• Shanxi Loongs Fenjiu: Zhang Ning set the tone with aggressive two-way play, and Yuan Shuai's perimeter shooting stretched Shenzhen's defense throughout. The frontcourt pairing of Ge Zhaobao and Liu Guancen controlled the defensive glass.
• Shenzhen Leopards: Shen Zijie was the most effective player in a Shenzhen jersey, protecting the rim and finishing inside, but he received limited support on the offensive end.
• Bench: Shanxi's second unit extended the lead rather than surrendering it, a big factor in the final margin.

Tactical Story

Shanxi's game plan was straightforward and executed well: pressure the ball, force Shenzhen into contested mid-range attempts and win the rebound battle. With Shenzhen unable to punish that approach from beyond the arc, the Leopards were left grinding for every point.

Shenzhen's own defensive effort was respectable in the second half — holding Shanxi to 38 points after halftime — but the first-half hole was simply too deep. Offensively, the Leopards' spacing broke down repeatedly, with too much isolation play and not enough ball movement against a compact Shanxi defense.

What It Means in the CBA Standings

For Shanxi, this is a statement result: a road win built on defense and rebounding, the kind of performance that holds up over a long CBA season. For Shenzhen, the loss raises questions about offensive creation, particularly when the primary scorers are taken out of rhythm.

The head-to-head record between these two clubs has swung back and forth in recent seasons, and this result gives Shanxi a useful edge should tiebreakers come into play later in the year.

Next Up

Shenzhen must find a way to generate easier baskets before its next outing, while Shanxi will look to carry the same defensive intensity back home.
