Match overview

Shanxi set the tone early with aggressive perimeter play and strong ball movement. Shanghai stayed within striking distance through the first half, but the Loongs gradually imposed their rhythm and built a lead that held up over the final two quarters.

• First quarter: Shanxi 27-24
• Second quarter: Shanxi 24-22
• Halftime: Shanxi 51-46
• Third quarter: Shanxi 26-23
• Fourth quarter: Shanxi 26-23
• Final score: Shanxi Loongs Fenjiu 103, Shanghai Jiushi Sharks 92

How Shanxi controlled the game

Shanxi’s offense was at its best when the ball moved quickly from side to side. The Loongs created open three-point looks, attacked closeouts, and kept Shanghai’s defense rotating. That approach helped them reach 103 points and maintain a working margin even when Shanghai made runs.

The decisive stretch came in the third quarter. Shanxi opened the second half with a composed run, pushing the lead to 77-69 by the end of the period. Shanghai’s offense remained productive in spurts, particularly through Wang Zhelin inside, but the Sharks could not string together enough defensive stops to truly threaten.

Tactical story

Shanxi’s perimeter shooting stretched Shanghai’s defense and created driving lanes for its guards. When Shanghai collapsed into the paint, the Loongs found shooters on the wing. When the Sharks extended defensively, Shanxi attacked the basket. That balance made the hosts difficult to guard for all four quarters.

Shanghai’s best moments came when Wang Zhelin established position inside and drew help defenders. That opened space for cutters and spot-up shooters, but Shanghai’s execution wavered in key moments. A few untimely turnovers and missed free throws prevented the Sharks from turning good stretches into a genuine comeback.

Standout performers

Zhang Ning’s energy and shot-making gave Shanxi a consistent edge on the wing, while Yuan Shuai’s perimeter threat helped space the floor. The Loongs’ guards controlled tempo well, and the frontcourt contributed important rebounds and second-chance points. Shanxi’s bench also provided a lift, keeping the intensity high when the starters rested.

For Shanghai Jiushi Sharks, Wang Zhelin was the focal point and caused problems around the rim. The Sharks’ guards created several good looks in transition, but Shanghai needed more consistency from beyond the arc. Defensively, the visitors struggled to contain Shanxi’s dribble penetration and were forced into too many scramble situations.

What it means

The win strengthens Shanxi Loongs Fenjiu’s position in the early CBA standings and underlines their ability to win with a high-scoring, balanced attack. For Shanghai Jiushi Sharks, the loss is a lesson in road-game execution: close quarters and missed opportunities can quickly become a double-digit deficit against a team shooting with confidence. The result adds another meaningful chapter to the Chinese Basketball Association season and gives Shanxi a valuable head-to-head victory.
