Shanghai Jiushi Sharks Beat Guangdong Southern Tigers 99-87 in CBA Clash

The Shanghai Jiushi Sharks produced a convincing 99-87 victory over the Guangdong Southern Tigers in Chinese Basketball Association action on October 26, 2026. Shanghai used a dominant interior performance and a strong second quarter to take control, handing Guangdong a road defeat in one of the league’s marquee matchups.

Shanghai led 25-22 after the first quarter and stretched the advantage to 52-43 at halftime. The Sharks then held off a brief Guangdong run in the third quarter before pulling away again in the fourth to secure the 12-point win.

Match Overview

Shanghai’s frontcourt set the tone from the opening tip, controlling the paint and creating second-chance opportunities. The Sharks were also efficient in transition, turning defensive rebounds into quick points before Guangdong’s defense could set.

Guangdong stayed within striking distance through the first half thanks to backcourt scoring and timely three-point shooting, but the Southern Tigers could not sustain their defensive intensity. Shanghai’s size and physicality proved difficult to handle over 40 minutes.

Key Moments

• Shanghai closed the second quarter on an 11-4 run, turning a four-point lead into a 52-43 halftime advantage.
• Guangdong cut the deficit to six early in the third quarter, but Shanghai responded with a 9-0 burst.
• Wang Zhelin’s and-one conversion midway through the fourth pushed the lead back to 15 and effectively ended Guangdong’s comeback hopes.
• Shanghai iced the game with free throws in the final minute.

Tactical Story

Shanghai’s offense revolved around paint touches and offensive rebounding. The Sharks repeatedly attacked the offensive glass and made Guangdong pay for smaller lineups. When Guangdong collapsed inside, Shanghai’s guards found open shooters on the wing.

Defensively, Shanghai did a solid job of forcing Guangdong into contested jumpers. The Southern Tigers moved the ball well at times, but they struggled to finish through contact and left points at the free-throw line. Shanghai’s ability to control the rebound battle was the clearest statistical separator in the game.

Standout Performers and Season Impact

Wang Zhelin led Shanghai with 26 points and 13 rebounds, dominating the interior on both ends. Liu Zheng added 18 points and five assists, while Li Tianrong contributed 15 points. Guangdong’s Hu Mingxuan scored 22 points, and Xu Jie added 17, but the Southern Tigers lacked the same balance across their rotation.

The win is a meaningful confidence boost for Shanghai and strengthens their standing in the CBA table. For Guangdong, the loss raises questions about rebounding and late-game defense against physical frontcourts. The head-to-head result will be remembered if the teams meet again in the playoffs or compete for a higher seed later in the season.
