Liaoning Flying Leopards Edge Qingdao Eagles 97-93 in High-Scoring CBA Thriller

Liaoning Flying Leopards secured a hard-fought 97-93 road win over Qingdao Eagles in the Chinese Basketball Association on October 21, 2026, surviving a high-scoring contest that came down to execution in the final minutes. Liaoning led by two at halftime and by five entering the fourth quarter, then made enough plays at both ends to hold off Qingdao’s late push.

Match Overview

Qingdao started brightly and led 25-23 after the first quarter, but Liaoning responded with a 24-22 second period to take a 47-45 halftime advantage. The visitors created separation in the third quarter with a 27-22 run, entering the final period ahead 74-69. Qingdao fought back in the fourth, scoring 24 points, but Liaoning matched them with 23 and closed out the four-point victory.

The game was played at a fast pace, with both teams finding success in transition and from beyond the arc. Qingdao’s home crowd helped fuel several runs, but Liaoning’s composure in the closing possessions proved decisive.

Key Moments

• Qingdao’s 25-23 opening quarter set the tone for a fast, offense-first contest.
• Liaoning’s 24-22 second-quarter response gave the visitors a 47-45 halftime lead.
• A 27-22 third-quarter surge pushed Liaoning ahead 74-69 and created breathing room.
• Qingdao cut the deficit late in the fourth, but Liaoning’s free-throw execution and defensive stops sealed the 97-93 win.

Tactical Story

Liaoning’s offense relied on quick decisions and perimeter shooting. The Flying Leopards moved the ball well against Qingdao’s pressure and created open looks through dribble penetration. When Qingdao collapsed into the paint, Liaoning’s shooters made enough outside shots to keep the offense efficient. Defensively, Liaoning forced several contested attempts in the fourth quarter and limited Qingdao’s clean catch-and-shoot opportunities.

Qingdao’s game plan was built on pace and aggression. The Eagles attacked the rim, pushed the ball after rebounds, and used their athleticism to create second-chance points. They were effective for long stretches, but costly turnovers and missed free throws in the final minutes prevented them from completing the comeback.

Standout Performers

Liaoning’s backcourt delivered key baskets in the fourth quarter, while the team’s frontcourt contributed important rebounds and interior defense. The Flying Leopards also received timely bench scoring that helped offset Qingdao’s runs. Qingdao’s leading scorer had a strong night and kept the Eagles within reach, and their big men competed well on the boards, but the hosts needed one more clean possession down the stretch.

Season Impact

The win gives Liaoning an important early-season road result and strengthens their position in the CBA standings. Close games often decide playoff seeding, and the Flying Leopards showed the kind of late-game poise that can pay off later in the season. Qingdao, meanwhile, will take encouragement from the fight they showed but will focus on limiting turnovers and improving execution in crunch time. The result leaves both teams with clear lessons as the CBA campaign continues.
