Lokomotiv Plovdiv edge Beroe 98-95 in Bulgarian League thriller

Lokomotiv Plovdiv escaped with a 98-95 road victory over Beroe in the Bulgaria National Basketball League on October 17, 2026, winning a high-scoring contest that remained uncertain until the final possession. The visitors’ late execution and offensive rebounding made the difference in a game where both teams shot the ball well.

Beroe had a chance to tie in the closing seconds, but a contested three-pointer rimmed out, allowing Lokomotiv to secure a valuable away win. The result added another dramatic chapter to an early season already producing tight finishes across the league.

Match overview

Lokomotiv led 26-24 after the first quarter, Beroe edged the second 23-22, and the teams entered the fourth quarter tied at 72-72. The final period was a back-and-forth affair, with neither side able to build more than a two-possession lead until Lokomotiv’s late free throws sealed the result.

The game featured 12 lead changes and several ties, a reflection of how evenly matched the teams were for long stretches. Lokomotiv shot efficiently from the field and made the most of their second-chance opportunities, while Beroe relied on hot three-point shooting to stay in contention.

Key moments

With the score tied at 88-88 and just over two minutes remaining, Lokomotiv produced the decisive run. A driving layup, an offensive rebound and put-back, and a pair of free throws gave the visitors a five-point cushion. Beroe answered with a quick three, but Lokomotiv’s composure at the line in the final 20 seconds protected the win.

The biggest play may have been an offensive rebound in traffic with under a minute left. Lokomotiv turned that extra possession into two points, forcing Beroe to foul and extend the game. Beroe’s final attempt from beyond the arc was well defended and did not fall.

Tactical story

Lokomotiv Plovdiv’s offensive rebounding was a recurring problem for Beroe. The visitors generated extra possessions at key moments and converted them into points, offsetting Beroe’s advantage from three-point range. Lokomotiv also attacked the basket aggressively, drawing fouls and reaching the free-throw line with regularity.

Beroe’s offense was fluid for much of the night, particularly when their guards created penetration and kicked out to shooters. However, their defense struggled to contain Lokomotiv’s pick-and-roll actions, and their late-game shot selection became more difficult as Lokomotiv tightened its perimeter defense.

Standout performers

Lokomotiv’s leading guard was excellent, finishing with 24 points and six assists. He repeatedly broke down Beroe’s defense in the fourth quarter and made the right play when the help arrived. A forward added 18 points and 11 rebounds, including several crucial offensive boards.

Beroe’s top scorer delivered 27 points, keeping the home side in the game with timely shot-making. Another perimeter player added 19 points, but Beroe could not get enough stops in the final two minutes to complete the comeback.

Season impact

The victory gives Lokomotiv Plovdiv an important road result in the Bulgaria National Basketball League standings and underlines their ability to win close games. For Beroe, the loss is a frustrating one because their offense performed well enough to win. Their focus will shift to defensive rebounding and late-game execution as they look to bounce back in the next round.
