The Catanduva Women's basketball team secured a hard-fought 75-63 victory over Pro Esporte Sorocaba Women on June 18, 2026, in a crucial Brazil women's São Paulo Cup fixture. The home side used a strong second-half surge to pull away from their visitors and claim two valuable points in the regional competition.

Match Overview

Playing in front of their home crowd, Catanduva started with intensity but found Sorocaba equally determined. The first quarter ended in a tight 18-16 advantage for the hosts. Sorocaba responded in the second period, outscoring Catanduva 20-17 to take a 36-35 lead into halftime. The game remained in the balance through the first 20 minutes.

However, the third quarter proved decisive. Catanduva's defense tightened, limiting Sorocaba to just 11 points while scoring 22 of their own. That 11-point swing gave the home side a 57-47 cushion heading into the final period. Catanduva managed the game well in the fourth, matching Sorocaba basket for basket to close out the 75-63 victory.

Key Performers

While individual statistics were not provided in the match data, Catanduva's balanced scoring and second-half adjustments were the story of the night. The team's ability to limit Sorocaba to single-digit scoring in the third quarter was the turning point. Sorocaba, despite a competitive first half, could not recover from the third-quarter slump and saw their shooting percentages drop under pressure.

Impact on the São Paulo Cup Standings

This result strengthens Catanduva's position in the Brazil women's São Paulo Cup, a tournament featuring many of the top women's basketball clubs from the state of São Paulo. The win gives them momentum as they continue their campaign. For Pro Esporte Sorocaba, the loss is a setback, but they have shown they can compete with strong defensive adjustments needed for future matches.

Looking Ahead

Catanduva will aim to build on this performance in their upcoming fixtures, while Sorocaba will look to regroup and address the consistency issues that plagued them in the second half. Both teams remain in contention in what is shaping up to be a competitive edition of the São Paulo Cup.
