Manchester Basketball edged Leicester Riders 89-87 in a thrilling British Super League Basketball contest on October 24, 2026. The visitors held their nerve in the closing minutes to secure a narrow road win in a game that swung back and forth throughout.

Match overview

The game was tied 44-44 at halftime and remained tight through the third quarter, with Manchester taking a 68-65 lead into the final period. Leicester fought back in the fourth, but Manchester made the decisive plays late to close out an 89-87 victory. The quarter scores were 24-21, 20-23, 21-22, and 24-21 in Manchester’s favor.

Both teams played at a high pace and traded runs for much of the night. Leicester’s home crowd was treated to an entertaining contest, but the Riders were left to rue a few missed opportunities in the final minute as Manchester escaped with the win.

Key moments

The first half was a back-and-forth affair, with neither team able to build a significant lead. Manchester started strongly, but Leicester responded with a run of its own in the second quarter to level the score at halftime. The third quarter followed a similar pattern, with the lead changing hands multiple times before Manchester edged ahead.

In the fourth quarter, Leicester appeared to have gained control when a quick burst gave the home side a narrow lead inside the final two minutes. Manchester answered with a crucial three-pointer and then converted free throws after Leicester was forced to foul. The Riders had one last chance to tie or win, but a contested shot fell short as the final buzzer sounded.

Tactical story

Manchester’s offense was built on quick ball movement and aggressive drives to the basket. The visitors consistently attacked the paint, drawing fouls and creating open looks from the perimeter. Their guards controlled the tempo well in the closing minutes, making sure Manchester got a quality shot on each possession.

Leicester’s inside presence kept the Riders in the game, and their rebounding helped generate second-chance points. However, turnovers and a few defensive lapses in the final quarter proved costly. Manchester’s ability to convert at the free-throw line in the closing seconds was the difference in a game decided by the smallest of margins.

Standout performers

Manchester’s backcourt was instrumental in the win, providing scoring and composure when the game tightened. The visitors also received valuable contributions from their bench, who kept the energy high during the middle stages. Defensively, Manchester made enough timely stops in the fourth quarter to deny Leicester a decisive run.

Leicester’s frontcourt caused problems throughout, dominating the glass and scoring efficiently around the rim. The Riders’ guards also had strong moments, but the team could not quite find the final answer in the closing possessions. It was a performance that deserved more, but Manchester’s late execution proved decisive.

Table and season impact

The road win is an important result for Manchester Basketball in the British Super League Basketball standings. Winning in Leicester is never easy, and doing so in such a tight game speaks to the team’s maturity and late-game confidence. The result could prove valuable when tiebreakers and playoff positioning are decided later in the season.

For Leicester Riders, the loss is a frustrating one, but the team showed enough to suggest it will remain competitive. The focus will be on closing out tight games more effectively and reducing turnovers in crucial moments. Manchester, meanwhile, will take confidence from a hard-fought victory.
