The visitors started with purpose, moving the ball quickly and attacking Cheshire’s defense from multiple angles. Cheshire stayed competitive early behind interior scoring and offensive rebounds, but Surrey’s perimeter efficiency and transition game gradually created separation. By halftime, Surrey had built a double-digit cushion and forced Cheshire to chase the game.

Key moments

The second quarter proved decisive. With Cheshire within striking distance, Surrey went on an 11-2 run fueled by two three-pointers and a fast-break dunk. The run pushed the lead into double figures and forced Cheshire into a timeout. Cheshire responded with a stronger start to the third quarter, cutting the gap to nine, but Surrey answered with a 7-0 burst of its own.

Every time Cheshire threatened in the fourth quarter, Surrey had a response. The visitors knocked down timely perimeter shots and converted at the free-throw line in the final minutes, preventing Cheshire from turning the game into a one-possession contest.

Tactical story

Surrey’s ball movement was excellent. The team finished with 26 assists and consistently found open shooters against Cheshire’s help defense. Surrey’s guards attacked the paint, drew defenders and kicked the ball out to the perimeter, where the visitors shot with confidence.

Cheshire’s best offense came inside, where it scored over smaller defenders and generated second-chance opportunities. However, the home side struggled to contain Surrey in transition and allowed too many open looks from beyond the arc. Cheshire’s turnovers also proved costly, giving Surrey extra possessions at key moments.

• Field-goal shooting: Surrey 53%, Cheshire 48%
• Three-pointers: Surrey 15, Cheshire 11
• Rebounds: Surrey 42, Cheshire 36
• Assists: Surrey 26, Cheshire 20

Standout performers

Surrey’s backcourt controlled the game, combining for efficient shooting and a high number of assists. The team’s leading scorer finished with 24 points, while the bench provided important spacing and defensive energy. Surrey’s frontcourt also held its own on the glass, limiting Cheshire’s second-chance points in the fourth quarter.

Cheshire’s top performer finished with 23 points and 10 rebounds, battling hard inside throughout the contest. The Phoenix also received good minutes from their guards, but the team could not string together enough defensive stops during Surrey’s decisive runs.

Season impact

The win strengthens Surrey’s position in the British Super League Basketball standings and gives the team a confidence-boosting road result. Cheshire, meanwhile, will focus on defensive rotations and ball security after allowing 107 points at home. With the season still developing, Surrey’s ability to win away from home could be a significant factor in the playoff race.
