Quarter-by-Quarter Scoring

Corinthians set the tone early and maintained a narrow edge through the first half before pulling away in the third quarter.

• First quarter: Corinthians 22-18
• Second quarter: Corinthians 19-16
• Third quarter: Corinthians 24-20
• Fourth quarter: Pinheiros 21-18

That third-quarter surge proved decisive. Corinthians outscored Pinheiros 24-20 in the period, turning a seven-point halftime lead into a more comfortable margin heading into the final ten minutes.

Key Moments and Turning Point

Pinheiros made their best push in the fourth quarter, cutting the lead to five points with just under four minutes remaining. The game briefly felt like it might swing on a single possession. Instead, Corinthians responded with a 7-0 run, capped by a deep three-pointer from Vitor Hugo that pushed the advantage back to double figures.

Gabriel Mendes then came up with a steal and a fast-break assist, effectively ending Pinheiros' comeback hopes. Even though Pinheiros won the final quarter, the Corinthians defense made the critical stops when the game was still in the balance.

Tactical Story

Corinthians leaned on a pick-and-roll-heavy attack, forcing Pinheiros to make decisions in help defense. When Pinheiros switched to a zone in the second quarter, Corinthians initially settled for quick threes, but they adjusted after halftime by attacking the middle of the zone and kicking out to open shooters.

The rebounding battle also shaped the result. Corinthians finished with a 38-33 edge on the boards, including 11 offensive rebounds that led to second-chance points. Pinheiros competed hard on the glass, but Corinthians' size and activity around the rim gave them a valuable margin.

Standout Players

Vitor Hugo led Corinthians with 21 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists, hitting three three-pointers. He was the team's most reliable shot-maker in the fourth quarter.

Gabriel Mendes added 17 points, 6 assists, and 3 steals, controlling the pace and making smart decisions against pressure. Rafael Souza posted a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while also blocking two shots.

For Pinheiros, Lucas Prado scored 19 points and grabbed 7 rebounds, keeping his team alive with tough shot-making. Matheus Lima added 16 points and 4 assists, and João Pedro Rocha contributed 12 points and 8 rebounds.

What the Result Means

The victory strengthens Corinthians' position in the Brazil LDB U22 standings and gives the squad confidence as the season progresses. For Pinheiros, the loss is a frustrating but useful learning experience: they competed for long stretches, won the fourth quarter, and showed they can score against a quality opponent.

Corinthians will look to carry the same defensive intensity into their next fixture, while Pinheiros will focus on reducing turnovers and improving their late-game execution. In a development league, those details often matter as much as the final score.
