How Sao Jose Won It

Sao Jose's five-point margin was manufactured in the closing stretch. With the score tied and both benches on edge, the visitors got the stops they needed and converted them into points at the other end — the hallmark of a team that has learned to stay calm in tight situations. Their half-court offence, patient and purposeful, produced better shots than Caxias do Sul managed over the final five minutes.

Tactical Story

This was a game won with defence and discipline. Sao Jose's defensive rotations held up under pressure, and their willingness to help and recover limited the number of clean looks Caxias do Sul generated in the paint. On the other end, Sao Jose's guards did a good job of drawing help defenders and finding the open man, turning modest individual scoring nights into a collective effort.

Caxias do Sul competed hard on the boards and generated a number of second-chance opportunities, but their shooting deserted them at precisely the wrong time. Missed free throws in the fourth quarter were a particular frustration in a game decided by a single-digit margin.

Standout Performances

Sao Jose's leaders stepped up in the moments that mattered most, controlling tempo and knocking down contested shots late in the clock. Their frontcourt contributed important interior defence and rebounding, making life difficult for Caxias do Sul inside. Caxias do Sul, meanwhile, got energy and production from their perimeter players, who kept the home side in front for stretches and ensured the game remained a genuine contest until the final minute.
