Botafogo U22 82-88 Cruzeiro U22 — Cruzeiro U22 claimed a hard-fought road win in the Brazil LDB U22, beating Botafogo U22 88-82 after a commanding second half in which their backcourt took control of the game.

Cruzeiro's Second-Half Surge

Botafogo U22 had the better of the opening exchanges and led for much of the first half, but Cruzeiro returned from the locker room a different team. A sustained third-quarter push flipped the game, and the visitors never surrendered the advantage again.

Match Overview

• Final score: Botafogo U22 82, Cruzeiro U22 88
• Competition: Brazil LDB U22
• Margin: 6 points
• Key stretch: Cruzeiro's third-quarter run

Key Moments

The third quarter proved decisive. Cruzeiro opened with a 12-3 burst, converting turnovers into transition points and forcing Botafogo into hurried shots. The home side recovered their composure late in the period but could never fully close the gap.

Botafogo made one last push in the final two minutes, cutting the deficit to four, but Cruzeiro answered with a cool mid-range jumper and two completed free throws to seal the result.

Tactical Story

The contrast in styles was clear. Botafogo favoured a physical, inside-out approach built around post touches and offensive rebounding, while Cruzeiro relied on guard speed, ball screens and quick perimeter shooting.

As the game wore on, Cruzeiro's pace began to tell. Their ability to get into their offence early in the shot clock kept Botafogo's defence moving and opened up driving lanes. At the other end, Cruzeiro's switching defence disrupted the home side's post-entry rhythm.

Standout Performers

Cruzeiro's starting guards were the difference-makers, combining scoring and playmaking and consistently beating their defenders off the dribble. Their forward rotation also contributed important second-chance points during the decisive run.

For Botafogo, the frontcourt delivered a strong statistical night on the boards, and their shooting guard kept the team in touch with a series of timely three-pointers. The difference was simply the number of empty possessions in the second half.

Development League Context

The LDB U22 is Brazil's premier development competition, giving young prospects regular minutes against high-level opposition. Results like this one — a road win built on second-half adjustments — are exactly what scouts look for when evaluating a player's composure and basketball IQ.

Season Impact

The victory lifts Cruzeiro U22 in the LDB standings and underlines their credentials as a team capable of winning away from home. Botafogo U22 will be disappointed to have let a first-half lead slip, but the performances of their young big men offer clear encouragement for the stretch ahead.
