The Sao Jose Women delivered a commanding performance on the road, defeating Recife W 67-48 in a Brazil Liga Feminina de Basquete clash on May 28, 2026. The victory extended Sao Jose’s strong form in the league and underlined their defensive solidity, while Recife struggled to find offensive rhythm in front of their home crowd.

Match Overview

From the opening tip-off, Sao Jose imposed a disciplined defensive scheme that limited Recife’s scoring options. The visitors took control early, building a double-digit lead by halftime and never looking back. Recife attempted to rally in the third quarter but could not close the gap, as Sao Jose answered every run with timely baskets and efficient ball movement.

Key Moments

The match turned decisively in the second quarter when Sao Jose outscored Recife 18-10, capitalising on turnovers and converting fast-break opportunities. A 9-0 run midway through the period stretched the lead to 15 points, forcing Recife into a timeout. Although the home side tightened their defence after the break, Sao Jose’s backcourt maintained composure and kept the scoreboard ticking.

Standout Players

Sao Jose’s offensive efficiency was driven by a balanced scoring effort, with three players reaching double figures. Their inside presence dominated the paint, securing multiple second-chance points that proved crucial. For Recife, the team’s leading scorer fought hard despite tight coverage, but lacked consistent support from the perimeter.

Tactical Story

Recife struggled to penetrate Sao Jose’s zone defence, often settling for contested jump shots. The visitors, by contrast, executed crisp pick-and-roll actions and found open shooters on the weak side. Sao Jose also controlled the defensive boards, limiting Recife to one-and-done possessions and preventing easy transition opportunities.

Table and Season Impact

The victory strengthened Sao Jose’s position in the Brazil Liga Feminina de Basquete standings, keeping them in contention for a top-four finish. Recife, meanwhile, dropped further in the mid-table and will need to address their offensive inconsistency ahead of a challenging run of fixtures. With the playoffs approaching, every result carries added weight, and Sao Jose’s road win could prove decisive when the final standings are set.
