Recife W suffered a heavy 93–63 defeat at home to Cerrado Basquete Women in the Brazil Liga Feminina de Basquete on May 21, 2026, as the visitors put on a dominant all-round display at the Ginásio Poliesportivo do Recife.

Match Overview

From the opening tip-off, Cerrado Basquete Women imposed their will on both ends of the floor, racing to a 28–14 lead after the first quarter. Recife struggled to contain the visitors' fast break and perimeter shooting, allowing Cerrado to build an advantage that would never be seriously threatened. By halftime, the margin had swelled to 54–32, leaving the home side with a mountain to climb in the second half.

Despite a brief rally in the third quarter where Recife cut the deficit to 15 points, Cerrado responded with a 12–2 run to re-establish control. The final period saw Recife's energy fade, and Cerrado cruised to a 30-point victory that underscored their status as one of the league's most formidable teams.

Key Moments

• First quarter dominance: Cerrado opened the game with an 11–0 run, forcing an early Recife timeout. The burst set the tone for the entire contest.
• Second quarter surge: A 9–0 spurt just before halftime widened the gap to 22 points, effectively breaking Recife's resistance.
• Third quarter push: Recife cut the lead to 65–50 midway through the third, but Cerrado's shooting guard, Marina Oliveira, hit back-to-back three-pointers to restore order.

Tactical Story

Cerrado's game plan revolved around high-pressure full-court defense and quick ball movement in transition. They forced 18 turnovers from Recife and converted them into 27 points. Offensively, the visitors spread the floor effectively, with five players scoring in double figures. Recife, meanwhile, relied heavily on center Ana Luísa (18 points, 9 rebounds), but lacked consistent outside shooting (3-of-16 from three) and were repeatedly beaten on the glass (42–28 rebounding disadvantage).

Standout Players

• Marina Oliveira (Cerrado): The shooting guard poured in 24 points on 9-of-14 shooting, including 4-of-7 from beyond the arc, and added 5 assists.
• Camila Santos (Cerrado): A double-double machine, the forward recorded 16 points and 11 rebounds while anchoring the defense.
• Ana Luísa (Recife): The lone bright spot for the home side, battling inside for 18 points and 9 boards despite constant double-teams.

Season Impact

With this result, Cerrado Basquete Women improved to 12–4 on the season, solidifying their place in the top four of the Liga Feminina standings. Recife, now 7–9, find themselves in a tight battle for a playoff spot, needing to improve their defensive consistency and perimeter shooting in the remaining fixtures.
