The win solidified Sampaio’s position among the league’s top contenders, while Cerrado was left searching for answers after a promising start.

Match Overview

Playing on Cerrado’s home court, the hosts started with energy and confidence, matching Sampaio basket for basket in the first quarter. The opening period ended in a 20–20 tie as both teams exchanged runs. Cerrado’s inside game, led by their frontcourt, kept them competitive, but Sampaio’s perimeter shooting began to find its rhythm late in the second quarter.

At halftime, Sampaio held a narrow 38–34 advantage, thanks to a late 8–0 surge. The third quarter proved decisive. Sampaio’s defensive intensity forced multiple Cerrado turnovers, which they converted into fast-break points. By the end of the third, the visitors had stretched their lead to 58–46, effectively seizing control of the contest.

Center Larissa Santos contributed a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds, controlling the paint on both ends.

For Cerrado, forward Mariana Oliveira posted 18 points and 8 rebounds, leading her team in scoring. However, Cerrado struggled with turnovers (17 total) and could not contain Sampaio’s transition game.

Implications in the Brazil Liga Feminina de Basquete Standings

The victory improved Sampaio’s record to 12–3, keeping them firmly in the top three of the league table. Cerrado, now 8–7, remains in mid-table but risks falling behind the playoff pack if they cannot string together wins.
