ARAE Catanduva U20 Women produced one of their most complete performances of the FPB Women U20 campaign on October 7, 2026, dismantling SESI/Araraquara U20 Women 69-45 in a São Paulo state youth basketball clash that was effectively decided before the final quarter. A commanding 24-point margin, built on disciplined half-court defence and a decisive second-quarter surge, handed Catanduva a statement win and left Araraquara searching for answers on both ends of the floor.

Match Overview

The contest tipped off with both sides trading early baskets, but the pattern of the game became clear quickly. Catanduva pushed the tempo in transition, attacked the rim with purpose, and forced Araraquara into contested, late-clock attempts. By the time the halftime buzzer sounded, the hosts had already opened a double-digit cushion they would never surrender.

How the Game Unfolded

Catanduva opened with an 18-12 first quarter, establishing an inside presence early while keeping Araraquara's guards out of the paint. The second period was where the game broke open. Catanduva held their opponents to just nine points in the frame, closing out on shooters, contesting every screen, and turning defensive stops into easy points at the other end. A 16-9 quarter sent the teams into the locker room with Catanduva firmly in control.

The third quarter proved just as one-sided. A 20-13 run pushed the lead past twenty, and Araraquara's offence never found a consistent rhythm, managing only 11 points in the fourth as Catanduva rotated their bench and closed out the win comfortably.

Quarter-by-Quarter Breakdown

• Q1 — Catanduva 18, Araraquara 12: A tight opening before Catanduva's interior scoring and transition game began to tell.
• Q2 — Catanduva 16, Araraquara 9: The decisive stretch. Catanduva's defensive pressure forced turnovers and rushed shots, opening a 34-21 halftime lead.
• Q3 — Catanduva 20, Araraquara 13: Catanduva's best offensive quarter, with balanced scoring from the backcourt and second-chance points off the offensive glass.
• Q4 — Catanduva 15, Araraquara 11: Bench minutes for Catanduva, but the defensive intensity held and the margin never dipped.

Tactical Story

Catanduva's game plan revolved around controlling the paint and shrinking the floor. Their half-court defence packed the key, forced Araraquara into mid-range and perimeter looks, and limited second-chance opportunities by finishing defensive possessions with strong rebounding. Offensively, they played with patience — probing the defence, drawing help, then kicking out or attacking the closeout.

Araraquara, by contrast, struggled to generate clean shots. Their ball movement slowed against Catanduva's pressure, and without an efficient inside scoring option, they were forced into low-percentage attempts. On the rare occasions they broke the first line of defence, Catanduva's help rotations arrived on time.

Standout Performers

Catanduva's scoring was spread across the rotation, a hallmark of a well-coached youth side. Their guards controlled tempo and made smart decisions in the pick-and-roll, while their forwards did the heavy lifting on the boards and around the rim. The bench also contributed meaningfully in the fourth quarter, protecting the lead without any drop in defensive urgency.

For Araraquara, the night was a difficult one, but there were flashes — brief stretches of solid half-court execution and a handful of transition buckets that showed the team's potential. The challenge now is consistency across four quarters rather than isolated bursts.

Season Impact

In the context of the FPB Women U20 standings, a 24-point victory carries real weight. Point differential can matter in state youth competitions, where tight table races are often settled by head-to-head records or margins. Catanduva's ability to close out games convincingly — rather than simply winning — strengthens their position and their confidence heading into the next round of fixtures.

For SESI/Araraquara, the result is a learning curve. Youth basketball at this level is defined by rapid development, and a heavy defeat often provides clearer film than a narrow win. Rebuilding their half-court offence and improving rebounding discipline will be the priorities in training.
