Sesi SP/Franca U20 edge Rio Claro Basquete U20 76-67 in Campeonato Paulista U20

Sesi SP/Franca U20 came away with a 76-67 victory over Rio Claro Basquete U20 in Brazil’s Campeonato Paulista U20 on October 23, 2026. The nine-point margin reflected a game that stayed competitive into the second half before the hosts took control with a balanced scoring effort and a stronger close to the third quarter.

The result gives Sesi a useful win in the state youth competition, while Rio Claro leave with a performance that had encouraging stretches but not enough consistency down the stretch.

Match overview

Sesi set the tone early by attacking the paint and moving the ball through the elbows. Rio Claro answered with quick guard play and outside shooting, keeping the first quarter close. The hosts led 19-16 after one and stretched the advantage to 40-34 at halftime. The decisive separation came in the third, when Sesi’s defensive rotations improved and Rio Claro’s half-court possessions became longer and less productive. An 18-17 third quarter gave Sesi a seven-point cushion entering the fourth, and the home side managed the final minutes well.

Key moments

The pivotal run arrived midway through the third quarter. After Rio Claro had cut the deficit to four, Sesi produced a sequence of stops and transition baskets that pushed the lead back toward double digits. A corner three and a put-back off an offensive rebound highlighted the run, forcing Rio Claro to call timeout. Out of the break, Rio Claro found a couple of clean looks, but Sesi’s ability to answer each mini-run kept the visitors from building real momentum.

Tactical story

Sesi’s advantage came from interior control and second-chance points. The hosts crashed the offensive glass aggressively and made Rio Claro pay for helping too far into the paint. Defensively, Sesi switched more willingly in the second half, disrupting Rio Claro’s pick-and-roll rhythm and forcing contested jumpers. Rio Claro’s best spells came when it played with pace and attacked before Sesi’s defense could set, but those moments were too sporadic.

Standout performers

Sesi’s backcourt controlled tempo and made timely shots, while the frontline did the dirty work on the boards. The team’s scoring balance was the defining feature: no single player had to carry the offense for long stretches. For Rio Claro, the guard play and outside shooting kept the game within reach, but the team needed more production around the rim and fewer empty possessions in the third quarter.

What the result means

For Sesi SP/Franca U20, the win is a positive entry in the Campeonato Paulista U20 standings and a sign that the team can close games with defense. For Rio Claro Basquete U20, the 76-67 loss offers clear areas to review: rebounding discipline, late-shot quality and composure when the pace slows. In a youth league where momentum can shift quickly, Sesi’s ability to win the third quarter proved to be the difference.
