Vivo Franca Overpower Mogi das Cruzes 90-74 in NBB Action

Vivo Franca secured a convincing 90-74 victory over Mogi das Cruzes in the Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB), using a strong second-quarter run and a dominant interior presence to pull away at home. The win keeps Franca in the upper reaches of the NBB standings and extends their strong form on their own court.

Mogi das Cruzes competed hard but were ultimately undone by a cold shooting night and an inability to contain Franca’s pick-and-roll attack. The result leaves both teams with clear areas to address as the NBB season progresses.

Match Overview

Franca opened with a 23-18 first quarter, relying on efficient half-court execution and aggressive rebounding. The second period proved decisive: Franca outscored Mogi 24-16 to take a 47-34 lead into halftime. Mogi briefly threatened in the third, cutting the deficit to 12, but Franca responded with a 10-0 run to restore control.

The final quarter saw Franca manage the game expertly, slowing the pace and converting free throws down the stretch. Mogi continued to fight, but the gap was too large. Franca’s 90 points came from a balanced scoring effort, with five players reaching double figures.

Key Moments

• Second-quarter burst: Franca turned a five-point lead into a 13-point halftime cushion with a run fueled by back-to-back three-pointers.
• Third-quarter response: After Mogi cut the lead to 12, Franca answered with a 10-0 run to end the threat.
• Fourth-quarter composure: Franca converted 12 of 14 free throws in the final period to seal the win.

Tactical Story

Franca’s offense was built around high pick-and-rolls, with their guards consistently finding the roll man or kicking out to open shooters. The team’s ball movement was crisp, and they attacked the offensive glass with purpose, creating second-chance points that proved crucial.

Mogi das Cruzes tried to counter with a zone defense in the second half, but Franca’s shooters made them pay from the perimeter. Defensively, Franca limited Mogi’s transition opportunities and forced them into contested jump shots. Mogi’s guards struggled to penetrate against Franca’s length, and their big men were neutralized on the boards.

Standout Players

Franca’s backcourt controlled the tempo, combining for 38 points and 14 assists. Their ability to break down Mogi’s defense off the dribble created open looks for teammates throughout the night. In the paint, Franca’s centers dominated, scoring efficiently and protecting the rim on the defensive end.

Mogi’s leading scorer finished with a respectable total, but the team’s overall shooting percentage was well below their season average. Their bench provided some energy in the second half, but it was not enough to close the gap.

Season Impact

The win strengthens Franca’s position in the NBB standings and reinforces their reputation as one of the league’s toughest home teams. With the season still young, this result provides valuable momentum and a confidence boost for the playoff race.

Mogi das Cruzes will need to address their perimeter defense and rebounding if they are to compete with the NBB’s top teams. The head-to-head record now favors Franca, and the 16-point margin could prove important in tiebreaker scenarios later in the season.
