Uniao Corinthians produced a composed fourth-quarter finish to defeat Cruzeiro 83-74 in Novo Basquete Brasil action on October 20, 2026, using a decisive third-quarter run and a balanced scoring effort to protect home advantage.

Match overview

Uniao Corinthians controlled the game in bursts rather than relying on one dominant scorer, and that depth proved decisive against a Cruzeiro side that stayed within striking distance until the final six minutes. The hosts led 22-18 after the first quarter, but Cruzeiro responded in the second to keep the contest tight.

• First quarter: Uniao Corinthians 22-18 Cruzeiro
• Second quarter: Uniao Corinthians 19-21 Cruzeiro
• Third quarter: Uniao Corinthians 23-17 Cruzeiro
• Fourth quarter: Uniao Corinthians 19-18 Cruzeiro
• Final: Uniao Corinthians 83-74 Cruzeiro

The halftime score of 41-39 reflected how little separated the teams in the opening 20 minutes. Uniao Corinthians then found another gear defensively after the break, holding Cruzeiro to 17 third-quarter points while turning several stops into quick transition opportunities.

Key moments

The turning point arrived midway through the third quarter. With the score tied at 48-48, Uniao Corinthians rattled off a 12-2 run built on back-to-back steals and a pair of corner three-pointers. Cruzeiro called timeout, but the hosts kept their defensive pressure high and carried a 64-56 lead into the final period.

Cruzeiro made one last push, cutting the deficit to 70-67 with just over five minutes remaining. Uniao Corinthians answered with an 8-0 surge, capped by a strong drive and finish from guard Pedro Nunes, and Cruzeiro never recovered. The home side closed the game at the free-throw line to seal an important NBB result.

Tactical story

Uniao Corinthians won this game on the defensive end. Their switching scheme disrupted Cruzeiro’s pick-and-roll rhythm, and their help defenders rotated quickly enough to contest perimeter shots without conceding easy layups. Cruzeiro finished the night cold from beyond the arc, and when those shots stopped falling, their half-court offense became predictable.

On the glass, Uniao Corinthians held a narrow but meaningful rebounding edge, limiting second-chance points. Offensively, they shared the ball well, recording 19 assists on 30 made field goals. That ball movement forced Cruzeiro into long defensive rotations and created open looks in the third quarter.

Standout players

Lucas Cipolini led Uniao Corinthians with 19 points and eight rebounds, consistently attacking the paint when the offense stalled. Pedro Nunes added 16 points, including several crucial fourth-quarter baskets, while Márcio Silva contributed 12 points and seven assists. For Cruzeiro, Caio Torres scored 18 points and Rafael Mendes added 14, but the visitors lacked enough secondary scoring down the stretch.

Season impact

The win gives Uniao Corinthians a valuable home result in the Novo Basquete Brasil standings and reinforces their ability to close games with defense. Cruzeiro, meanwhile, will look back at a third quarter in which they were outscored 23-17 and outworked on the offensive glass. In a league where home form often shapes playoff seeding, this was a result Uniao Corinthians could point to as a building block.
