Mogi das Cruzes produced a strong home performance to beat Corinthians 84-73 in Novo Basquete Brasil on October 18, 2026, using a decisive second-half run to pull away from a stubborn opponent.

The game was competitive through the opening two quarters, with both teams trading baskets and neither able to establish a comfortable cushion. Mogi led 42-37 at halftime, but the contest remained open. The hosts changed the tone after the break, tightening their defense and turning rebounds into transition opportunities. A 24-18 third-quarter advantage gave Mogi control, and they protected the lead comfortably in the final period.

Match Overview

Corinthians started well by attacking the paint and drawing fouls, keeping the game level early. Mogi responded with better ball movement and found open shooters on the perimeter. The first half was played at a quick pace, but neither defense allowed easy baskets for long stretches. Mogi’s slight edge on the boards helped them take a five-point lead into the locker room.

The third quarter proved decisive. Mogi came out with more urgency, forcing Corinthians into contested mid-range shots and limiting second-chance points. Offensively, the hosts shared the ball well and repeatedly found the open man against Corinthians’ rotating defense. By the end of the third, Mogi had built a 66-55 lead and had the momentum firmly on their side.

Key Moments

The defining stretch came late in the third quarter when Mogi put together a 10-0 run. It began with a steal and fast-break dunk, followed by two consecutive three-pointers from the wing. Corinthians called timeout, but the damage had been done. The visitors briefly cut the deficit to eight in the fourth quarter, but Mogi answered with a composed possession and a defensive stop each time Corinthians threatened.

With under three minutes remaining, Mogi’s guards controlled the tempo, using the shot clock and converting free throws to keep the game out of reach. Corinthians were forced to foul, and the hosts made enough from the line to close out the win.

Tactical Story

Mogi’s defense was the foundation of the victory. They forced Corinthians into 17 turnovers and converted those mistakes into 21 points. The hosts also dominated the rebounding battle, particularly on the offensive glass, which gave them extra possessions in the second half. Corinthians struggled to contain Mogi’s dribble penetration, and when they collapsed into the paint, the hosts made them pay from beyond the arc.

Corinthians’ offense had good moments in isolation, but too often settled for difficult shots late in the clock. Their bench provided energy, but Mogi’s balanced scoring and superior transition game proved decisive.

Standout Players

• Rafael Torres (Mogi das Cruzes) led all scorers with 22 points, adding 5 assists and 3 steals.
• Caio Lima (Mogi das Cruzes) was dominant on the boards with 13 rebounds, including 5 on the offensive end.
• Diego Nunes (Mogi das Cruzes) controlled the tempo with 7 assists and hit two key third-quarter three-pointers.
• Lucas Almeida (Corinthians) top-scored for the visitors with 19 points, but he received limited support in the second half.

What It Means

The win strengthens Mogi das Cruzes’ position in the Novo Basquete Brasil standings and underlines their ability to win with defense and rebounding. Corinthians will be disappointed with their second-half execution, particularly their turnovers and rebounding deficit. Both teams now turn their attention to the next round, with Mogi looking to build on a complete home performance.
