Telindus Oostende Dominate Zwolle 98-70 in BNXT League Showcase

Telindus Oostende delivered a statement performance at the COREtec Dôme on Sunday, dismantling Zwolle 98-70 in BNXT League action. The Belgian champions were never troubled, racing to a 28-14 first-quarter lead and extending the margin to as many as 34 points in the third quarter.

The win reinforces Oostende's reputation as one of the deepest and most balanced teams in the BNXT League, while Zwolle leave with plenty to address on both ends of the floor.

Match Overview

Oostende shot a blistering 55% from the field and 48% from three-point range, finishing with six players in double figures. Their defense was equally impressive, holding Zwolle to 38% shooting and forcing 18 turnovers. The home side led 52-34 at halftime and put the game into cruise control after a 30-point third quarter.

Zwolle's offense struggled to find rhythm against Oostende's switching defense. The Dutch side managed just 6-of-24 from beyond the arc and were outscored 44-22 in the paint.

Key Moments

• First quarter: Oostende opened with a 14-2 run, capped by three straight transition baskets.
• Second quarter: Zwolle briefly cut the lead to 12, but Oostende closed the half on a 16-4 run.
• Third quarter: A 12-0 burst pushed the lead to 30, effectively ending the contest.
• Fourth quarter: Oostende's bench extended the lead to 34 before Zwolle scored late consolation points.

Tactical Breakdown

Oostende's coaching staff emphasized pace and space, and the players executed perfectly. They pushed the ball after every defensive rebound, generating easy baskets before Zwolle's defense could set. In the half court, Oostende used dribble hand-offs and off-ball screens to create open looks for their shooters.

Defensively, Oostende's ability to switch every screen neutralized Zwolle's pick-and-roll attack. Zwolle's guards were forced into contested mid-range jumpers, and their big men were kept off the offensive glass (only 7 offensive rebounds).

Standout Players

• Matteo Verstraete (Oostende): 20 points, 6 assists, 4 rebounds, 4-of-6 from three.
• Jasper De Meyer (Oostende): 17 points, 8 rebounds, 3 steals.
• Rik van der Meer (Zwolle): 15 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists.
• Niels de Vries (Zwolle): 12 points, 7 rebounds, but 4 turnovers.

BNXT League Standings Impact

The victory keeps Oostende firmly in the upper reaches of the BNXT League standings and sends a message to the rest of the competition: at home, they are a formidable force. For Zwolle, the loss highlights the gap between themselves and the league's elite. They will need to improve their perimeter shooting and turnover margin to compete with the top teams.

Oostende next face a challenging road trip, while Zwolle return home for a must-win game against a mid-table rival.
