Stella Artois Leuven Bears won a hard-fought BNXT League encounter against Leiden, 67-64, on October 25, 2026. In a game defined by defence and half-court execution, the home side made the decisive plays in the final minute.

Match overview

Leuven led 16-15 after a tight first quarter and took a 33-31 advantage into halftime. Neither team found it easy to score, with both defences crowding the paint and contesting every perimeter look. The third quarter remained similarly close, and Leuven carried a narrow 48-47 lead into the final period.

The last quarter was a possession-by-possession battle. Leiden tied the game late, but Leuven responded with a composed offensive set and then delivered a crucial defensive stop. Free throws in the closing seconds sealed the 67-64 win.

Key moments

The decisive sequence came with under a minute remaining. Leuven executed a patient half-court possession, moved the ball into the post and scored to regain the lead. On the next possession, the hosts forced Leiden into a low-percentage shot and secured the rebound.

Leuven’s late free-throw shooting then proved decisive. Leiden had a final opportunity to force overtime, but the shot did not fall, allowing the home crowd to celebrate a narrow but important victory.

Tactical story

This was a game for the purists. Both teams prioritised defensive discipline, and scoring runs were rare. Leuven’s frontcourt controlled the defensive glass, limiting Leiden’s second-chance opportunities. Offensively, the Bears were patient, often working deep into the shot clock to find a good look.

Leiden competed well and kept the game close with timely three-point shooting, but the team struggled to generate easy baskets in the paint. Leuven’s ability to protect the rim and contest drives ultimately made the difference in a low-scoring contest.

Standout performers

Leuven’s interior players were central to the win, combining for key rebounds and efficient finishes. The guards managed the tempo well and made important free throws under pressure. For Leiden, the defensive effort and outside shooting kept the visitors in the game until the final possession.

Season impact

The win gives Stella Artois Leuven Bears a valuable home result in the BNXT League and reinforces the team’s ability to win close games. Leiden leaves with a narrow defeat but can take encouragement from a competitive road performance. In a league where home advantage and late-game execution matter, Leuven’s 67-64 victory could prove significant.

The final score may not be high, but the contest delivered exactly what BNXT fans expect: physical defence, tactical discipline and a finish that remained uncertain until the last shot.
