Zwolle's Defense Sets Tone in BNXT Road Win at Belfius Mons

Zwolle produced a controlled and physical defensive performance on October 18, 2026, defeating Belfius Mons 74-57 on the road in BNXT League action. The visitors never allowed Mons to find a comfortable offensive rhythm, building a double-digit lead before halftime and protecting it with disciplined half-court defense in the second half. The final score reflected Zwolle's ability to turn stops into points, while Mons were left searching for answers against a compact and active defensive unit.

Match Overview

Zwolle led for the majority of the contest and were especially strong in the middle two quarters, where the game slipped away from the home side. Mons stayed within striking distance early, but a series of empty possessions and contested shots allowed Zwolle to steadily build separation. The quarter-by-quarter scoring underlined the visitors' consistency:

• First quarter: Belfius Mons 14, Zwolle 20
• Second quarter: Belfius Mons 15, Zwolle 18
• Third quarter: Belfius Mons 12, Zwolle 19
• Fourth quarter: Belfius Mons 16, Zwolle 17

Zwolle led 38-29 at halftime and stretched the advantage to 57-41 by the end of the third quarter. Mons improved slightly in the final period, but the deficit was already too large to erase.

Key Moments

The decisive stretch came late in the first half and early in the third quarter. Zwolle closed the second quarter with a composed run, then opened the third with back-to-back defensive stops that forced Mons into rushed perimeter attempts. A 10-2 burst in the opening minutes of the second half pushed the lead to 16 points and effectively changed the tone of the game. Mons threatened briefly with a small run in the fourth quarter, but Zwolle answered with timely baskets and free throws to keep the margin comfortable.

Tactical Story

Zwolle's defensive game plan centered on clogging the paint and forcing Belfius Mons to beat them from the outside. The visitors rotated well on the help side, contested drives, and limited second-chance opportunities with strong defensive rebounding. On offense, Zwolle played with patience, using ball screens to create mismatches and attacking the basket when Mons overcommitted on the perimeter. Mons, by contrast, struggled to string together efficient possessions and were often forced into late-shot-clock attempts.

Standout Performers

Zwolle's backcourt controlled the tempo and consistently found open shooters against Mons' rotating defense. Their wing defenders also deserve credit for disrupting passing lanes and turning defensive stops into transition opportunities. For Belfius Mons, the interior effort remained strong, but the team lacked enough perimeter scoring to keep pace. Mons' guards worked hard to create looks, yet Zwolle's length and discipline made every possession difficult.

Season Impact

The win gives Zwolle a valuable road result in the BNXT League standings and reinforces their reputation as a team capable of winning with defense. For Belfius Mons, the loss is a reminder that offensive execution must improve against physically aggressive opponents. The result will be reflected in the early-season table, and both teams will take clear lessons into their next fixtures.
