Kortrijk build an early advantage

Kortrijk started with intent, scoring 22 points in the first quarter and forcing Waregem into several difficult possessions. The visitors led 22-17 after the opening period and stretched the advantage to 41-33 by halftime. Waregem stayed within reach, but Kortrijk’s defensive pressure and rebounding gave them a clear edge.

The third quarter followed a similar pattern. Kortrijk added 20 points and maintained a double-digit cushion, entering the final period ahead 61-51. Waregem tried to increase the tempo, but the visitors handled the pressure well and continued to find scoring opportunities in transition.

Key moments in the 79-67 win

Waregem’s best stretch came in the third quarter, when a quick run cut the deficit to single digits and lifted the home crowd. Kortrijk responded with a composed sequence of defensive stops and efficient offense, ending the period with a 10-point lead. Early in the fourth, another Kortrijk run effectively sealed the result.

Waregem kept competing until the final minutes, but Kortrijk’s ability to answer every challenge proved decisive. The visitors finished the game with strong free-throw shooting and controlled the defensive glass, denying Waregem the second-chance points needed for a late comeback.

Tactical story: pressure and rebounding

Kortrijk’s defense set the tone. The visitors pressured the ball, disrupted Waregem’s half-court rhythm, and forced several hurried shots. On offense, Kortrijk shared the ball effectively, with multiple players contributing and the bench providing energy.

Waregem’s offense had moments of quality, particularly when the team attacked inside and moved the ball quickly. However, the hosts struggled with consistency from the perimeter and were hurt by turnovers in key moments. Kortrijk’s rebounding advantage, especially on the defensive end, limited Waregem’s chances to build momentum.

Standout performers

Kortrijk’s backcourt controlled the pace and made important shots when Waregem threatened to close the gap. The frontcourt battled on the boards and finished well around the rim. The visitors’ bench also played a valuable role, maintaining intensity and helping Kortrijk keep the lead in double digits.

For Waregem, the interior players fought hard on the glass and provided some of the team’s most reliable scoring. The guards created opportunities at times, but the hosts could not sustain their best stretches. It was a night when effort was present, but execution and shot-making fell short.

What the result means in Belgium Women’s Division 1

The road win strengthens Kortrijk’s position in the Belgium Women’s Division 1 standings and gives the team confidence ahead of its next fixtures. A 12-point margin away from home is a strong statement, particularly in a league where home advantage can be significant.

For Declercq-Stortbeton Waregem Women, the loss highlights areas to address: ball security, perimeter consistency, and defensive rebounding. The team remains capable of competing, but it will need a sharper performance in its next outing. Kortrijk, meanwhile, will look to maintain the defensive intensity that powered this victory.
