Key moments

Spirou set the tone immediately, racing to a 28-15 lead after the first quarter. Their full-court pressure forced Bavi into hurried passes and early shot-clock decisions, while offensively they found easy baskets at the rim and open looks from three-point range. Bavi’s best period came in the second quarter, when they scored 20 points, but Spirou matched almost every run with a response of their own.

The third quarter effectively ended any hope of a comeback. Spirou opened the second half with a 12-4 run, pushing the lead beyond 20 points. Bavi continued to compete, but Spirou’s bench maintained the intensity and extended the margin further in the fourth. The final score reflected Spirou’s superiority in nearly every statistical category.

Tactical story

Spirou Charleroi’s defensive pressure was the foundation of the win. They denied easy entry passes, trapped ball-handlers on the wings, and converted steals into fast-break points. On offense, their spacing allowed guards to attack closeouts and either finish at the rim or find open teammates. The Belgian cup format often produces mismatches, and Spirou handled the role of favourite with professional focus.

Bavi Vilvoorde struggled to contain Spirou’s transition game and gave up too many second-chance opportunities. When they did settle into half-court offense, they found some success through pick-and-roll actions, but the defensive end remained a problem throughout the night.

Standout players

• Spirou Charleroi: Alexandre Libert scored 24 points, including five three-pointers, and added four assists.
• Spirou Charleroi: Milan Samardžić contributed 18 points and six rebounds, dominating the paint on both ends.
• Spirou Charleroi: Noah Fogang came off the bench for 14 points and three steals, highlighting the team’s depth.
• Bavi Vilvoorde: Jasper De Vries led the home side with 18 points, while Ruben Claes added 13 points and six rebounds.

Cup impact

The victory sends Spirou Charleroi into the next round of the Belgium Basketball Cup, where they will expect to challenge for the title. For Bavi Vilvoorde, the result is a tough but valuable experience against elite opposition. The cup remains a competition where lower-division clubs can test themselves, and Bavi’s players will hope to use the lessons from this heavy defeat in their domestic league campaign.
