Bizkaia Bilbao Basket claimed a valuable 92–79 road win over KK Igokea in the Basketball Champions League, using a third-quarter surge to pull clear in a game that had been competitive for long stretches. The 13-point margin reflects a composed performance from the Spanish side, who answered every Igokea run with timely shot-making at the other end.

Match Overview

Igokea began in front of their home crowd with energy and intent, trading baskets through the opening period before Bilbao edged ahead 24–20. The second quarter followed a similar pattern, with the visitors maintaining a narrow cushion at 46–38 by halftime. The game turned decisively after the break, when Bilbao produced their best basketball of the night — a 25–19 third-quarter effort that pushed the lead into double digits and forced the hosts to chase.

Igokea gave everything in the fourth, scoring 22 points, but Bilbao matched them almost shot for shot to close out the win. It was a professional road display: absorb pressure early, take control in the third, and manage the game intelligently down the stretch.

Quarter-by-Quarter Breakdown

• Q2: Igokea 18 – 22 Bilbao Basket
• Q3: Igokea 19 – 25 Bilbao Basket
• Q4: Igokea 22 – 21 Bilbao Basket

Tactical Story

Bilbao's success was built on offensive efficiency and unselfish play. The Spanish side moved the ball quickly, exploited mismatches in the post and found open shooters when Igokea's defense rotated. Their spacing was excellent throughout, which made double-teaming in the paint a costly decision for the hosts.

Defensively, Bilbao's key adjustment came after halftime. They tightened their pick-and-roll coverage, forced Igokea's ball-handlers toward the sidelines, and contested shots at the rim far more aggressively. Igokea's offense became more perimeter-oriented as a result, and while they hit some difficult shots, they could not generate the steady run needed to close the gap.

Standout Performers

Bilbao's backcourt controlled the game's rhythm, producing efficient scoring while consistently finding teammates in better positions. Their forwards contributed important minutes on the glass and defensively, while the bench provided a scoring boost in the second half that proved decisive. The team's free-throw shooting in the fourth quarter was particularly valuable, denying Igokea any hope of a late comeback.

Igokea's leading scorers fought hard, with their perimeter players creating shots off the dribble and their big men battling inside. But the hosts struggled with turnovers in key moments and were out-rebounded in the decisive third quarter.

Season Impact and Group Context

Road wins are gold in Basketball Champions League group play, and this result gives Bilbao a significant boost in the standings while strengthening their point differential. For Igokea, the loss puts pressure on their home form — the foundation of any successful continental campaign — and makes their remaining fixtures against direct rivals even more important.

What's Next

Bilbao will aim to consolidate their position with another disciplined display, while Igokea must regroup quickly and rediscover the defensive intensity that made the first half competitive.
