Galatasaray MCT Technic Hold Off Strasbourg 83-77 in Basketball Champions League Opener

Galatasaray MCT Technic secured an important 83-77 home victory over Strasbourg in the Basketball Champions League on October 21, 2026, using a steady fourth-quarter performance to close out a game that remained competitive deep into the second half. The win gives Galatasaray a valuable early result in the group phase, while Strasbourg leave with a narrow road defeat despite a spirited offensive display.

Match Overview

Galatasaray started with purpose, attacking the paint and forcing Strasbourg into early rotations. The hosts led 22-19 after the first quarter, but Strasbourg responded well in the second period, matching Galatasaray’s intensity and sending the teams into halftime level at 40-40. The game remained tight through the third quarter, with neither side able to establish a double-digit advantage. Galatasaray edged ahead 60-57 entering the final period and then found the extra gear needed to secure the win.

The final quarter was the difference. Galatasaray tightened its defense, limited Strasbourg’s clean looks from beyond the arc, and converted key free throws down the stretch. Strasbourg stayed within striking distance but could not produce the final run required to steal the game on the road.

Key Moments

• Galatasaray’s 22-19 opening quarter set an aggressive tone, with the hosts scoring efficiently around the basket.
• Strasbourg’s second-quarter surge tied the game at 40-40 by halftime, turning the contest into a possession-by-possession battle.
• A 20-17 third-quarter edge gave Galatasaray a 60-57 lead and shifted the pressure back onto Strasbourg.
• In the fourth quarter, Galatasaray’s late defensive stops and composed free-throw shooting sealed the 83-77 result.

Tactical Story

Galatasaray’s approach was built on inside-out basketball. The hosts looked to establish position near the rim early, then used the attention drawn by their interior play to create open looks for the guards. That balance helped them shoot efficiently enough to hold off Strasbourg’s runs. Defensively, Galatasaray’s most important adjustment came in the fourth quarter, when it reduced Strasbourg’s rhythm from three-point range and forced contested jump shots.

Strasbourg’s game plan relied on ball movement and perimeter shooting. The visitors were effective when they played with pace and attacked before Galatasaray’s defense could set, but they struggled to sustain that momentum in the closing minutes. Rebounding also proved costly: Galatasaray generated enough second-chance opportunities to offset Strasbourg’s better stretches of shot-making.

Standout Performers

Galatasaray’s leading scorer paced a balanced attack, while the backcourt controlled tempo and made several important decisions in the final quarter. The hosts also received valuable minutes from their frontcourt, particularly on the defensive glass and at the free-throw line. For Strasbourg, the top scorer kept the visitors in contention, and the team’s wing play created problems during the middle quarters, but the visitors lacked the same late-game execution.

Season Impact

The win gives Galatasaray a 1-0 start and a positive point differential of +6 in the Basketball Champions League group standings. In a competition where tie-breakers and road results often shape qualification, protecting home court is essential, and this performance checked that box. Strasbourg, meanwhile, will take encouragement from the competitiveness of the display but will need to convert close games into wins as the group phase progresses. The result adds early pressure to the visitors’ schedule and makes their next home fixture especially important.
