Match overview

• Final score: Falco KC-Szombathely 85, Salon Vilpas 72
• Quarter scores: 22-18, 20-16, 24-19, 19-19

Key moments

Falco closed the first quarter with a short run to lead 22-18, then opened a 42-34 halftime advantage by controlling the defensive glass. The most important spell came in the third quarter, when the hosts strung together stops and converted them into transition points. That surge turned a manageable deficit into a 66-53 hole for Salon Vilpas.

Vilpas did not go away quietly. They found some rhythm from beyond the arc and cut into the lead early in the fourth, but Falco’s response was immediate. A pair of composed possessions and a defensive stop restored breathing room, and the Hungarian side closed the game from the free-throw line.

Tactical story

Falco’s game plan was built on paint touches and second-chance opportunities. Their guards probed the defense, drew help, and found open shooters when Vilpas collapsed. Defensively, Falco did a strong job of contesting without fouling in the second half, limiting easy trips to the line.

Salon Vilpas relied heavily on perimeter shooting and quick ball movement. When their threes fell, they looked dangerous, but too many empty possessions in the third quarter allowed Falco to build separation. The Finnish side also struggled to contain Falco’s offensive rebounding, which gave the hosts extra chances at crucial moments.

Standout performers

Falco’s backcourt set the tone with steady decision-making and timely scoring, while their interior rotation controlled the boards and protected the rim. The hosts’ bench also provided a useful spark, particularly during the third-quarter run that changed the game.

For Salon Vilpas, the perimeter scorers kept the team within reach, but the visitors needed a more balanced attack to counter Falco’s physicality. Their best stretches came when they moved the ball side to side and attacked closeouts rather than settling for contested jumpers.

Season impact

The 85-72 victory gives Falco KC-Szombathely an important early win and a confidence boost in the Basketball Champions League standings. For Salon Vilpas, the defeat leaves room for improvement on the road, especially in rebounding and third-quarter execution. Falco will look to build on the defensive intensity shown after halftime, while Vilpas will focus on finding more consistent inside-out balance.
