The win gives RASTA Vechta an important confidence boost in the BBL standings, while Ratiopharm Ulm leave with a narrow defeat that will sting given how long they controlled portions of the contest. The final scoreline reflects a true back-and-forth battle: Ulm led by three at halftime, Vechta responded with a strong third quarter, and the fourth period turned into a tense, possession-by-possession finish.

Match overview

• League: Basketball Bundesliga
• Date: October 11, 2026
• Quarter scores: Vechta 22-19-23-20; Ulm 20-24-18-21

Vechta opened with energy, using quick ball movement and aggressive drives to take a 22-20 lead after the first quarter. Ulm answered in the second, tightening their half-court defense and finding rhythm from beyond the arc to build a 44-41 halftime advantage. The third quarter proved decisive, as Vechta outscored Ulm 23-18 to flip the momentum and carry a 64-62 lead into the final ten minutes.

Key moments

Ulm held a four-point cushion midway through the second quarter, but Vechta’s bench provided a spark with back-to-back stops and a transition dunk that brought the home crowd into the game. In the third, a 9-2 Vechta run turned a deficit into a lead, capped by a corner three that forced Ulm into a timeout.

The final minute was chaotic. With the score tied at 83-83, Vechta drew a foul on a drive to the basket and made one of two free throws with 4.2 seconds remaining. Ulm had a final chance, but a contested three-pointer from the wing rimmed out as the buzzer sounded, sealing the 84-83 result.

Tactical story

Vechta’s defensive adjustments after halftime were the difference. They switched more aggressively on screens, forced Ulm’s guards away from the middle, and limited clean catch-and-shoot looks. On offense, Vechta attacked the paint relentlessly, generating second-chance opportunities and free throws. Ulm’s ball movement was sharp early, but their half-court execution slowed in the fourth, and they settled for difficult jumpers late in the clock.

The rebounding battle was relatively even, but Vechta’s offensive boards in the third quarter gave them extra possessions that proved decisive. Ulm’s transition game kept them close, yet their inability to convert at the rim in the final minutes left the door open.

Standout players

Vechta’s leading forward delivered a complete performance, finishing with 19 points and nine rebounds while anchoring the team’s interior defense. Their starting guard added 17 points and seven assists, controlling the pace and making key plays in the fourth quarter. A reserve wing also contributed crucial minutes, scoring eight points and grabbing several important rebounds.

For Ratiopharm Ulm, the backcourt led the way with a game-high 24 points, including four three-pointers. Their center added 14 points and 10 rebounds, but Ulm’s supporting cast struggled to find consistent offense in the second half.

Standings and season impact

This result matters in the Basketball Bundesliga table, especially early in the season when every win can shape playoff positioning. Vechta will view the victory as proof they can compete in tight games against strong opposition, while Ulm will look to correct their late-game execution. The head-to-head now adds another layer to future meetings, and both teams will carry lessons from a game decided by a single point.
