Gladiators Trier stun Alba Berlin with emphatic 95-75 victory in Basketball Bundesliga

In one of the biggest surprises of the early Basketball Bundesliga season, Gladiators Trier dismantled Alba Berlin 95-75 on October 11, 2026, at the Arena Trier. The 20-point blowout over one of Germany's most decorated clubs sends a shockwave through the BBL and announces Trier as a force to be reckoned with.

Trier came out with incredible energy, racing to a 24-12 lead after the first quarter behind red-hot three-point shooting. Alba Berlin, known for their disciplined defense, had no answers for Trier's ball movement and pace. The home side extended their lead to 51-32 by halftime, shooting 58% from the field and 8-of-15 from beyond the arc. Alba's offense was stagnant, committing 10 first-half turnovers.

Alba's comeback attempt falls short

The third quarter saw Alba show signs of life. Behind a 10-2 run, they cut the deficit to 14 points midway through the period. But Trier's bench responded with a 9-0 run of their own, capped by a corner three from a reserve guard. The lead was back to 23 by the end of the third, and Alba never seriously threatened again. Trier's defense held Alba to just 34% shooting in the second half.

Key moments and turning point

The game's defining moment came late in the second quarter. Alba had trimmed the lead to 41-30 and seemed to be gaining momentum. But Trier's point guard stripped the ball from Alba's playmaker and went coast-to-coast for a layup. On the next possession, Trier's center blocked a shot, leading to a fast-break three. That five-point swing in 15 seconds pushed the lead to 16 and sparked a 10-0 run to close the half. Alba never recovered.

Standout performers

Trier's offense was led by shooting guard Jonas Richter, who scored 26 points on 10-of-16 shooting, including 6-of-10 from three. Forward Lukas Weber added 18 points and 9 rebounds, while point guard Maximilian Schmidt dished out 11 assists to go with 12 points. Center Tobias Krüger dominated the paint with 14 points and 13 rebounds.

For Alba Berlin, only shooting guard Marcus Taylor showed up, scoring 20 points. Star forward Johannes Thiemann was held to 12 points on 4-of-12 shooting, and the team's bench was outscored 38-18. Alba shot just 39% from the field and 28% from three.

Tactical breakdown

Trier's game plan was to run at every opportunity and force Alba into a track meet. They succeeded, scoring 22 fast-break points. Defensively, Trier employed a switching scheme that disrupted Alba's pick-and-roll, forcing them into isolation plays. Alba, meanwhile, struggled to contain Trier's dribble penetration, leading to open kick-out threes. Trier's 18 offensive rebounds also gave them extra possessions, and they converted those into 24 second-chance points.

BBL standings and season impact

This victory improves Gladiators Trier's record to 4-1, placing them near the top of the early BBL standings. Alba Berlin drops to 3-2 and will face questions about their defense and depth. For Trier, a team with playoff aspirations, beating a perennial contender like Alba is a massive confidence boost. It also serves notice to the rest of the league that Trier is not just a feel-good story but a legitimate threat. Alba will need to regroup quickly as they compete in both the BBL and EuroLeague.
