Phoenix Hagen stun EWE Baskets Oldenburg 87-78 on the road

Phoenix Hagen produced a statement road performance in the Basketball Bundesliga, defeating EWE Baskets Oldenburg 87-78 on October 11, 2026. The visitors controlled the middle two quarters, built a double-digit lead, and then weathered a late Oldenburg comeback to secure a valuable win.

Oldenburg entered the game looking to protect home court, but Hagen’s shooting and transition offense proved too much. The final score reflects a deserved victory for Hagen, who led for much of the night and never allowed Oldenburg to fully seize momentum after halftime.

Match overview

• Final score: EWE Baskets Oldenburg 78, Phoenix Hagen 87
• League: Basketball Bundesliga
• Date: October 11, 2026
• Quarter scores: Oldenburg 20-17-23-18; Hagen 22-25-20-20

Hagen started quickly, knocking down outside shots and pushing the pace to take a 22-20 lead after the first quarter. The second quarter was the game’s turning point: Hagen outscored Oldenburg 25-17, opening a 47-37 halftime advantage. Oldenburg responded with a stronger third quarter, cutting the deficit to 67-60, but Hagen closed the game with timely baskets and free throws.

Key moments

The defining stretch came late in the second quarter when Hagen reeled off a 12-3 run, capped by consecutive three-pointers from the wing. That burst turned a close game into a 10-point halftime lead. Oldenburg fought back in the third behind interior scoring and a more aggressive defensive approach, trimming the margin to four early in the fourth.

However, Hagen answered with a clutch 7-0 run of their own. A step-back three and a fast-break layup restored a double-digit cushion, and Oldenburg never got closer than six points in the final three minutes. Hagen’s composure at the free-throw line in the closing seconds sealed the 87-78 win.

Tactical story

Hagen’s offensive game plan was clear: spread the floor, attack early in the shot clock, and punish Oldenburg’s help defense with quick ball reversal. They finished with a high number of three-point attempts and converted enough of them to keep Oldenburg chasing. Defensively, Hagen mixed zone and man-to-man looks, disrupting Oldenburg’s pick-and-roll rhythm and forcing several contested mid-range shots.

Oldenburg won the rebounding battle and scored well in the paint, but turnovers and cold stretches from beyond the arc hurt them. Their late rally showed character, yet Hagen’s execution in the final five minutes was sharper on both ends.

Standout players

Hagen’s starting guard was the game’s top scorer with 26 points, including six three-pointers, and added five assists. Their power forward posted a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds, controlling the glass and scoring efficiently around the rim. A bench guard chipped in 11 points, providing a crucial spark in the second quarter.

For EWE Baskets Oldenburg, the center led the way with 20 points and 10 rebounds. The team’s primary playmaker finished with 15 points and eight assists, but Oldenburg’s wings combined for a quiet shooting night, which proved costly against Hagen’s hot perimeter game.

Standings and season impact

This road win boosts Phoenix Hagen’s position in the Basketball Bundesliga standings and reinforces their ability to compete away from home. For Oldenburg, the loss is a missed opportunity on their own floor and highlights the need for more consistent outside shooting. The result also adds an intriguing head-to-head storyline for the return fixture later in the season.
