How the Game Unfolded

The first quarter was a tight, back-and-forth affair. Nara's home crowd fueled an energetic start, but Niigata's half-court offense was efficient, and the Albirex held a 22-20 lead after one. The second quarter saw Nara surge ahead. Behind a 12-4 run, the Bambitious took a 42-40 lead into halftime, capped by a buzzer-beating jumper.

The third quarter proved pivotal. Niigata tightened their defense and began to attack the rim with purpose. A 15-5 run midway through the period gave the Albirex a 64-56 lead. Nara responded with a late run of their own, but Niigata still carried a 64-61 advantage into the final quarter.

The fourth quarter was a thriller. Nara tied the game at 78-78 with just under three minutes remaining. But Niigata's veteran guard Keisuke Tanaka took over, scoring eight of his team's final 12 points, including four clutch free throws in the final 30 seconds. Nara had a chance to tie in the dying seconds, but a contested three-pointer rimmed out, and Niigata secured the win.

Key Moments

• Third-quarter run: Niigata used a 15-5 spurt to turn a two-point halftime deficit into a 64-56 lead.
• Clutch free throws: Keisuke Tanaka went 4-for-4 from the line in the final 30 seconds to seal the win.
• Defensive stop: With Nara down by three in the final seconds, Niigata forced a contested three-pointer that missed, ending the threat.

Tactical Breakdown

Niigata's second-half adjustments were key. They switched to a 2-3 zone defense that frustrated Nara's dribble penetration and forced them into perimeter shots. Nara finished just 8-of-30 from three-point range, a season-worst performance from beyond the arc. The Albirex also dominated the glass in the second half, outrebounding Nara 24-14 after halftime.

Offensively, Niigata relied on their pick-and-roll game, with Tanaka and big man David Simon executing beautifully. Simon's presence inside drew double-teams, opening up shooters on the perimeter. Nara, meanwhile, struggled to contain Simon, who finished with a double-double and altered numerous shots at the rim.

Standout Performers

• Niigata Albirex BB: Guard Keisuke Tanaka led all scorers with 25 points, 6 assists, and 4 rebounds, including the game-clinching free throws. Center David Simon added 18 points, 14 rebounds, and 3 blocks. Forward Takumi Saito chipped in 14 points off the bench.
• Bambitious Nara: Center Takuya Sato recorded a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Guard Kenta Matsumoto added 16 points and 5 assists, but the team's poor three-point shooting proved costly.

Season Impact

Niigata Albirex BB improves to 3-2 with the win, while Bambitious Nara drops to 2-3. The victory is a significant confidence booster for Niigata, who have now won two straight on the road. Nara will be left ruing missed opportunities at the free-throw line (14-of-21) and from beyond the arc. Both teams remain in the middle of the B2 League standings, but Niigata's ability to win close games could prove valuable as the season progresses.
