Oberwart Gunners Crush Basket Club Vienna 114-58 in Austrian Basketball Superliga

Oberwart Gunners delivered a statement performance on October 2, 2026, dismantling Basket Club Vienna 114-58 in the Austrian Basketball Superliga. The 56-point margin was powered by a blistering offensive start, suffocating defense, and a deep bench that kept the pressure on for all four quarters.

Match Overview

Oberwart came out firing and never let up. The Gunners led 30-12 after the first quarter, then stretched the advantage to 58-27 by halftime. A 28-18 third quarter made it 86-45, and the home side closed with another 28-point period to finish with a 114-58 victory. It was a complete team performance that showcased Oberwart’s scoring depth and defensive discipline.

The Gunners shot 55% from the field, 42% from three-point range, and assisted on 29 of their 41 made baskets. Basket Club Vienna was held to 34% shooting and committed 21 turnovers, many of which turned into easy Oberwart fast-break points. The rebounding battle was also one-sided, with Oberwart winning 48-31.

Key Moments

The game was effectively decided in the opening minutes. Oberwart began with a 15-2 run, fueled by three-pointers from Lukas Hahn and Michael Nwosu. Basket Club Vienna called timeout, but the Gunners continued to pour it on. A 16-0 run in the second quarter pushed the lead to 48-18 and removed any doubt about the outcome.

Even with the game out of reach, Oberwart’s bench maintained the intensity. In the fourth quarter, reserve guard Felix Wagner hit three consecutive three-pointers, sparking a 14-2 run that pushed the lead past 50. Vienna managed a few late baskets, but the final margin reflected Oberwart’s dominance on both ends.

Tactical Story

Oberwart’s game plan was built on pace and ball movement. They pushed the ball after every defensive rebound, attacked early in the shot clock, and used drive-and-kick actions to create open perimeter looks. When Vienna tried to close out hard, Oberwart punished them with backdoor cuts and offensive rebounds. Defensively, the Gunners switched aggressively on screens and denied passing lanes, forcing Vienna into contested shots and careless turnovers.

Basket Club Vienna tried to slow the tempo with a half-court zone in the second half, but Oberwart’s shooting made that strategy unsustainable. Vienna also struggled to contain Nwosu in the paint, often collapsing help defense and leaving shooters open on the perimeter. It was a tactical mismatch from start to finish.

Standout Players

• Lukas Hahn (Oberwart Gunners): 24 points, 8 assists, 4 three-pointers, orchestrating the offense with precision.
• Michael Nwosu (Oberwart Gunners): 20 points, 12 rebounds, 3 blocks, dominating inside and out.
• Felix Wagner (Oberwart Gunners): 15 points off the bench, including three straight fourth-quarter threes.
• Elias Gruber (Basket Club Vienna): 14 points, 5 rebounds, one of the few consistent scorers for the visitors.
• David Kovacs (Basket Club Vienna): 10 points, 4 assists, but also 6 turnovers against Oberwart’s pressure.

Austrian Basketball Superliga Table and Season Impact

The win boosts Oberwart Gunners’ position in the Austrian Basketball Superliga standings and sends a clear message to the rest of the league. A 56-point victory is more than just a win; it is a marker of depth, form, and championship ambition. The point differential could also prove valuable when playoff seeding and tiebreakers are decided later in the season.

For Basket Club Vienna, the loss highlights areas that need urgent attention, especially ball security and perimeter defense. Oberwart, meanwhile, will look to maintain this level of execution in their next fixture. If the Gunners can sustain this kind of offensive efficiency and defensive pressure, they will be a serious contender in the Austrian Basketball Superliga this season.
