UKJ Hypo Mistelbach edged Deutsch Wagram Alligators 81-80 in a tense Austria Basketball Zweite Liga clash on October 17, 2026, with the outcome hanging on the final possession. In a game that featured repeated lead changes and very little separation over the closing minutes, Mistelbach found just enough poise at the free-throw line and one final defensive stop to secure a one-point home win.

A one-possession finish in Mistelbach

The hosts started with good energy in front of their home crowd, but Deutsch Wagram settled quickly and turned the first half into a scrappy, physical contest. Neither side managed to build a double-digit cushion, and every small run was answered almost immediately. Mistelbach’s ball movement created good looks from the perimeter, while the Alligators did much of their damage around the basket and on second-chance opportunities.

The fourth quarter became a possession-by-possession battle. Mistelbach briefly looked to have created the decisive gap after a 9-2 run early in the period, but Deutsch Wagram responded with timely three-point shooting and free throws to reclaim the lead. The game was still undecided in the final minute, forcing both teams into careful half-court sets and deliberate clock management.

Key moments that decided the game

• Mistelbach’s late defensive stand forced Deutsch Wagram into a contested three-pointer on the final possession, which rimmed out as the buzzer sounded.
• A pair of calm free throws gave the hosts the decisive 81-80 advantage with only a few seconds remaining.
• The Alligators’ comeback in the third quarter kept the game close, but they could not quite complete the road win.

Standout performers

Mistelbach’s backcourt set the tone down the stretch, with Elias Wagner leading the scoring effort and making several important decisions in the final quarter. His ability to attack closeouts and find open teammates kept the Alligators’ defense off balance. Deutsch Wagram’s Patrick Berger was a constant threat inside, finishing with a strong double-double and keeping his team in front for long stretches.

The difference in the end was marginal: Mistelbach made one more play in the final 30 seconds, while Deutsch Wagram’s last look did not fall. In a game this close, the small details — a rebound here, a made free throw there — proved decisive.

What the result means

The win gives UKJ Hypo Mistelbach a valuable early-season result in the Austria Basketball Zweite Liga standings and reinforces their ability to close out tight games at home. For Deutsch Wagram Alligators, the 81-80 loss is a frustrating one, but the performance showed enough fight and execution to suggest they will remain competitive in the league. The head-to-head result may also matter later in the season if the two teams find themselves near each other in the table.
