How the game unfolded

Salzburg started with energy, moving the ball well and attacking the basket through their guards. A 22-20 first-quarter lead was quickly erased in the second period as Upper Austrian Ballers found rhythm from beyond the arc and took a 44-41 advantage into halftime. The visitors’ ball movement stretched Salzburg’s defense and created open looks from the corners.

The third quarter changed the game. Salzburg tightened their defense, forced several turnovers and outscored the Ballers 25-18 to retake control. The hosts entered the final period with a 66-62 lead, but Upper Austrian Ballers refused to fade. A late three-point play cut the deficit to one possession in the final minute, but Salzburg converted key free throws and forced a contested miss on the visitors’ last meaningful possession.

Tactical story

Salzburg’s second-half adjustment centered on defensive pressure. They switched more aggressively on screens, denied dribble penetration and forced Upper Austrian Ballers into difficult pull-up jumpers. Offensively, Salzburg attacked the paint first, drawing help defenders before kicking the ball to open shooters. That inside-out approach produced a more balanced scoring distribution and kept the Ballers’ defense guessing.

Upper Austrian Ballers stayed in the game through three-point shooting and second-chance points, but they were undone by turnovers in the third quarter and a few empty possessions late. Salzburg’s rebounding edge on the offensive glass also proved important, creating extra scoring opportunities during the decisive run.

Standout performers

Salzburg guard Lukas Hofer led all scorers with 24 points, including several key baskets in the third-quarter surge. Forward Stefan Bauer added 16 points and eight rebounds, while point guard Jonas Moser finished with 11 points and seven assists. For Upper Austrian Ballers, Elias Gruber scored 21 points and pulled down seven rebounds, with Tobias Wagner adding 15 points in a losing effort.

Season impact

The narrow win gives Salzburg valuable momentum in the Austria Basketball Zweite Liga and underscores their ability to close out tight games. Upper Austrian Ballers will take encouragement from their fighting spirit but will need to reduce turnovers and improve late-game execution. The result leaves both teams with clear areas to build on as the season progresses.
