Deutsch Wagram Alligators vs Vienna Timberwolves: Alligators Secure 102-91 Home Win in Austria Basketball Zweite Liga

The Deutsch Wagram Alligators defeated the Vienna Timberwolves 102-91 in an Austria Basketball Zweite Liga matchup on October 3, 2026, using a balanced offensive attack and a decisive third-quarter push to protect home court. The Alligators reached the century mark for a statement victory, while the Timberwolves stayed competitive into the final period but could not close the gap late.

With the win, Deutsch Wagram reinforced its credentials as a team to watch in the Zweite Liga standings. The 11-point margin reflected a game that was tighter than the final score suggests for much of the night, but the Alligators’ efficiency around the basket and timely perimeter shooting made the difference down the stretch.

Match Overview

The game opened at a quick pace, with both teams trading baskets in the first quarter. Deutsch Wagram held a narrow 26-22 lead after ten minutes, leaning on aggressive drives and second-chance points. Vienna responded in the second period with improved ball movement and three-point shooting, but the Alligators maintained control by attacking the rim and getting to the free-throw line.

By halftime, Deutsch Wagram had built a 54-46 advantage. The Timberwolves remained within striking distance, thanks to a handful of transition baskets and some sharp shooting from the wings, but they struggled to contain the Alligators’ interior scoring. The third quarter proved to be the turning point, as the home side extended its lead and carried a 78-67 cushion into the final period.

Key Moments

The most important stretch came midway through the third quarter. With Vienna threatening to cut the deficit to single digits, Deutsch Wagram produced a 10-2 run powered by defensive stops and quick baskets in transition. That burst pushed the lead to 15 points and forced the Timberwolves to chase the game for the remainder of the night.

Vienna did not fade away quietly. Early in the fourth quarter, the Timberwolves knocked down back-to-back three-pointers to trim the margin to 82-76, briefly swinging momentum. But the Alligators answered immediately with a post score and an offensive rebound put-back, restoring a comfortable advantage. From there, Deutsch Wagram controlled the tempo, drained clock, and converted enough free throws to keep the visitors at arm’s length.

The final two minutes belonged to the Alligators’ defense. Vienna managed just one field goal in that closing stretch, while Deutsch Wagram sealed the result at the charity stripe. The home crowd celebrated a performance that combined patience in the half court with enough explosiveness to pull away when needed.

Tactical Story

Deutsch Wagram’s game plan was clear: attack the paint and dominate the glass. The Alligators consistently fed the ball inside, drawing fouls and opening up drive-and-kick opportunities for their shooters. Their offensive rebounding gave them extra possessions, especially in the second and third quarters, and that advantage proved critical in a game where both teams shot the ball well from the field.

Vienna’s approach relied on spacing and three-point shooting. The Timberwolves moved the ball well and found open looks from beyond the arc, but they were hurt by turnovers during key moments. Several live-ball giveaways turned into easy Deutsch Wagram points, and those mistakes made it difficult for Vienna to sustain any prolonged comeback attempt.

Defensively, the Alligators mixed man-to-man pressure with occasional zone looks, disrupting Vienna’s rhythm in the half court. The Timberwolves had success when they pushed the pace, but Deutsch Wagram was content to slow the game down once it built a double-digit lead. That tactical discipline helped close out the 102-91 win.

Standout Players

The Alligators’ backcourt controlled the flow of the game, balancing scoring with timely playmaking. Deutsch Wagram’s guards repeatedly broke down Vienna’s perimeter defense, creating open shots for teammates and drawing help defenders before finding the open man. Their decision-making in the fourth quarter was particularly impressive, as they avoided rushed shots and made Vienna work on defense.
