Match Overview

• Fixture: Instituto de Córdoba vs Ferro Carril Oeste
• Final score: Instituto 97 – 94 Ferro Carril Oeste
• Date: 10 October 2026
• Result: Home win for Instituto de Córdoba

Quarter by Quarter

• Q1: Instituto 24 – 22 Ferro
• Q2: Instituto 21 – 25 Ferro (half-time: 45 – 47)
• Q3: Instituto 26 – 23 Ferro (71 – 70)
• Q4: Instituto 26 – 24 Ferro

Neither team managed to build a lead larger than seven points at any stage, and the lead changed hands repeatedly through the second half. Ferro's second-quarter surge gave them a narrow half-time advantage, but Instituto responded after the interval with a more aggressive approach on both ends of the floor.

Key Moments

The game turned in a two-minute span midway through the fourth quarter. Trailing by three, Instituto forced a shot-clock violation, then converted back-to-back three-point plays — one from the perimeter and one through an and-one drive — to swing the momentum. Ferro had chances to tie in the final 20 seconds but missed a contested look from deep, and Instituto iced the game at the free-throw line.

An offensive rebound with under ten seconds to play effectively ended Ferro's hopes, allowing the hosts to run out the clock and secure a hard-fought home victory.

Tactical Story

Instituto's offence was built around ball screens and quick ball reversal, generating open looks from the corners and forcing Ferro's defence into constant rotation. Their willingness to attack the paint also earned them a significant free-throw advantage, particularly in the fourth quarter.

Ferro Carril Oeste, one of the most traditional institutions in Argentine basketball, matched Instituto basket for basket for most of the night with a balanced scoring attack and sharp three-point shooting. Ultimately, however, their defensive rebounding let them down in the closing minutes, and the extra possessions they conceded proved decisive in such a tight game.

Standout Players

• Leandro Barreiro (Instituto): 24 points and 5 assists, the game's leading scorer and its calmest presence late on.
• Facundo Ibarra (Instituto): 18 points and 8 rebounds, dominant on the offensive glass in the second half.
• Bruno Salgado (Instituto): 14 points and 7 assists, orchestrating the offence with only one turnover.
• Nicolás Ferreyra (Ferro Carril Oeste): 22 points, keeping his team in front during the third quarter.
• Tomás Aguirre (Ferro Carril Oeste): 17 points and 9 rebounds in a strong all-round performance.

Table and Season Impact

This is a valuable win for Instituto in the Liga Nacional standings, especially against a direct rival for playoff positioning. Home victories in Argentina's top division carry extra weight, and protecting their own court is essential for any team hoping to secure a favourable seed come the postseason.

For Ferro Carril Oeste, the defeat is a narrow one that will sting, but the performance confirmed they can compete on the road against the league's stronger sides. Both clubs remain firmly in the playoff conversation, and a rematch later in the season — likely in Buenos Aires — already looks like one of the fixtures to circle on the calendar. Instituto's next challenge will be maintaining this level of execution on the road, where points are considerably harder to come by.
