Ferro Carril Oeste claimed an 86-81 home win over Platense in the Argentinian Liga Nacional de Básquetbol, holding off a late challenge to secure a valuable result in the standings. Ferro led for most of the night but had to withstand a spirited Platense comeback before closing the game with composure at both ends.

Match overview

Ferro came out with energy and established an early rhythm behind solid half-court execution. The hosts moved the ball well and attacked the basket with purpose, building a 20-17 lead after the first quarter. Platense stayed within striking distance by knocking down timely perimeter shots and competing on the offensive glass.

The second quarter followed a similar pattern. Ferro’s bench provided a spark, helping the home side extend its advantage to 44-39 at halftime. Platense remained dangerous, though, and their ability to score in transition kept the game from slipping away. Every time Ferro threatened to pull clear, the visitors found an answer.

Key moments

Platense made their move in the third quarter, using a 10-2 run to tie the game at 58-58 and silence the home crowd. Ferro responded with a poised possession that ended in a three-pointer, then forced a turnover on the next defensive trip. The hosts carried a 63-60 lead into the fourth quarter, but the game remained in the balance.

In the final five minutes, Ferro’s execution improved on both ends. A pair of offensive rebounds led to second-chance points, and their guards did a good job of drawing fouls and converting at the line. Platense had chances to close the gap, but a missed three and a costly turnover in the last minute allowed Ferro to protect the 86-81 advantage.

Tactical story

Ferro’s rebounding and free-throw shooting proved decisive. The hosts won the battle on the offensive glass, creating extra possessions that translated into crucial points. Defensively, Ferro did a better job in the fourth quarter of containing Platense’s dribble penetration and forcing contested jump shots.

Platense will feel they let an opportunity slip. They shot well enough to stay close and matched Ferro for long stretches, but they were hurt by turnovers in key moments and could not secure the defensive rebounds they needed late. In a league as competitive as the Argentinian Liga Nacional, those small details often decide games.

Standout performers

Santiago Ledesma led Ferro Carril Oeste with 23 points, including several important baskets in the fourth quarter. Nicolás Aguirre delivered a strong all-around performance with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Tomás Ferrari added 13 points off the bench. For Platense, Facundo Russo scored 20 points and Lucas Medina contributed 17, but their efforts were not enough to complete the comeback.

Season impact

The win strengthens Ferro Carril Oeste’s position in the Liga Nacional de Básquetbol standings and gives them confidence ahead of a demanding stretch of fixtures. Platense leave with a narrow defeat but can take encouragement from their resilience on the road. The 86-81 scoreline reflects a hard-fought contest in which Ferro’s late-game discipline made the difference.
