Atletico Argentino Junin held off Boca Juniors 84-82 in a tightly contested Argentinian Liga Nacional de Básquetbol game on 22 October 2026. The two-point margin told the story of a night in which neither team could pull away for long, and the hosts did just enough in the final possessions to secure the win.

Match overview

The game tipped at 08:00 and immediately settled into a physical, possession-by-possession battle. Atletico Argentino Junin used their home crowd to play with energy, attacking the paint and drawing fouls early. Boca Juniors responded with experienced guard play and timely three-point shooting, keeping the game close through the first half.

The second half followed a similar pattern. Neither team led by more than a few possessions, and every run was answered. In the final minutes, Atletico Argentino Junin made the bigger defensive plays and converted enough free throws to hold on. Boca had a chance to tie or win on the last possession, but the home defense forced a difficult look and the clock ran out on the visitors.

Key moments

The decisive sequence came in the last two minutes, when Atletico Argentino Junin turned a one-point deficit into a narrow lead by getting stops and scoring in transition. Boca Juniors had answers throughout the night, but a missed shot and a turnover in the closing stretch proved costly. The final score of 84-82 reflected how evenly matched the sides were in open play.

• Atletico Argentino Junin won the battle at the free-throw line in the final quarter.
• Boca Juniors’ perimeter shooting kept them close but could not deliver the final punch.
• The result adds another tight chapter to the head-to-head record between the two clubs.

Tactical story

Atletico Argentino Junin focused on attacking the rim and forcing Boca’s big men into help situations. That approach created open corner threes and second-chance opportunities. Boca Juniors, meanwhile, relied on ball movement and shot-making from the perimeter. When Boca’s shots fell, they were able to stay level; when the looks became contested late, Atletico’s defense took over.

Defensively, the hosts did a better job of closing out on shooters in the fourth quarter and keeping Boca out of the paint. Boca’s switching scheme caused some problems early, but Atletico adjusted by using screens to create mismatches and attacking the basket with purpose.

Standout performers

Atletico Argentino Junin got balanced scoring across their rotation, with their guards controlling the tempo and their forwards doing the work on the glass. Boca Juniors were powered by their backcourt, which kept the visitors in the game with timely shot-making and composure at the line. In the end, the home side’s depth and defensive discipline made the difference.

What it means

The win gives Atletico Argentino Junin a valuable result in the Liga Nacional de Básquetbol standings and reinforces their ability to win close games at home. For Boca Juniors, the 82-84 loss is a narrow setback that will sting, especially because they had chances late. Both teams will take lessons from a game that was decided by execution in the final minutes.
