Regatas de San Nicolas secured a hard-fought 80-78 victory over Centenario de Neuquen in Argentina Liga Nacional basketball action on October 20, 2026, closing out a tense contest that remained in the balance until the final possessions. The two-point margin reflects just how little separated the teams, with neither side able to build a comfortable cushion for long stretches of the game.

Match overview

Regatas de San Nicolas made the most of home advantage, but Centenario de Neuquen stayed within striking distance throughout. The visitors matched the hosts’ intensity for much of the night and kept the game within one possession deep into the closing minutes. In the end, Regatas’ ability to execute in the half court and protect the ball during the decisive possessions proved to be the difference.

The final score of 80-78 gives the game a classic Liga Nacional feel: physical, tactical, and decided by small details. Regatas found just enough scoring balance to offset Centenario’s resilience, while the visitors left with a narrow defeat despite a competitive performance on the road.

Key moments

• Late-game execution: Regatas converted key chances in the final minutes, while Centenario was unable to answer on the other end.
• Defensive stops: The hosts produced the most important stops of the night when the game tightened in the fourth quarter.
• Free-throw discipline: With the margin so small, Regatas’ composure at the line helped protect the lead down the stretch.
• Centenario’s response: The visitors repeatedly fought back into the contest, but the final possession sequence fell short.

Tactical story

Regatas de San Nicolas controlled the tempo for long enough to keep Centenario from turning the game into a loose, high-possession shootout. The hosts prioritized solid half-court defense and made Centenario work for its points. On offense, Regatas spread the scoring load and avoided relying on a single shot-maker for every key basket.

Centenario de Neuquen, meanwhile, showed why it remained competitive until the final buzzer. The visitors attacked the paint, moved the ball well in spurts, and forced Regatas into several difficult possessions. The difference was not a dominant run but rather Regatas’ ability to answer whenever Centenario threatened to seize momentum.

Standout performers

Regatas’ backcourt played a central role in the win, managing the pace of the game and making timely decisions in the closing minutes. The team’s interior players also contributed important defensive stands and second-chance opportunities. For Centenario, the effort was led by a balanced scoring approach rather than one isolated outburst, which kept the visitors in the game until the very end.

Standings and season impact

The 80-78 result gives Regatas de San Nicolas a valuable home victory in the Argentina Liga Nacional standings. In a league where road wins are difficult to secure, protecting home court is essential, and this narrow success could prove important as the season progresses. For Centenario de Neuquen, the loss is a frustrating one, but the two-point margin suggests the team remains capable of competing against quality opposition.

The game will be remembered as a tight, playoff-style contest: low on separation, high on tension, and decided by the small execution details that define Liga Nacional basketball.
