Key Moments

The home side’s guards did a good job of breaking pressure and finding open teammates in the half court. San Martin, meanwhile, struggled to string together consecutive baskets during that stretch.

San Martin made a late run in the fourth quarter, cutting the deficit and forcing Penarol to execute under pressure. But Penarol answered with timely buckets and free throws, denying San Martin the chance to complete the comeback.

Tactical Story

This was a game defined by defense. Both teams contested shots hard and limited easy looks near the rim. Penarol’s defensive rotations were sharp, and the team did a solid job of closing out on San Martin’s perimeter shooters. Offensively, Penarol played with patience, often working the ball into the paint before kicking it out for open shots.

San Martin competed well on the glass and forced several turnovers, but the team’s half-court offense stalled for long stretches. In a game where scoring came at a premium, San Martin needed more efficient possessions in the third quarter and could not find them consistently.

Standout Performers

Penarol’s backcourt played a key role in controlling tempo and making decisions in the final minutes. The team’s interior players also contributed important rebounds and defensive stops. It was a collective effort rather than a one-man show, which fits the development-focused nature of the LDD competition.

San Martin’s effort was reflected in its defensive pressure and rebounding. The visitors stayed within striking distance and made Penarol work for every point. However, San Martin needed a little more shot-making down the stretch to flip the result.

Standings and Development Impact

For Penarol LDD, the 65-60 win is a valuable result in the Argentina Liga Nacional development landscape, where young players gain important experience in close, physical games. For San Martin LDD, the loss is a learning moment, particularly in late-game execution and half-court offense.

The final score may not have been high, but the game offered exactly what development basketball is supposed to provide: pressure situations, tactical adjustments, and opportunities for players to grow. Penarol will take confidence from closing out a tight contest, while San Martin will look to bounce back with a sharper offensive performance in its next outing.
