Deportivo Norte Lock Down Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata in 73-44 Rout

Deportivo Norte produced a defensive masterclass on October 28, 2026, dismantling Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata 73-44 in Argentina Liga Nacional play. The 29-point margin told the story of a game defined by pressure, discipline and Gimnasia’s inability to find any offensive rhythm.

Match Overview

Deportivo Norte never trailed, opening the game with an 11-2 run and setting the tone with physical perimeter defense. Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata struggled to generate clean looks, often settling for contested jumpers late in the shot clock. By halftime, Deportivo led 38-21, and the third quarter brought more of the same as the hosts held Gimnasia to just nine points in the period.

Key Moments

• Deportivo Norte opened the game with an 11-2 run fueled by transition baskets.
• Gimnasia was held to 21 first-half points and shot under 30% from the field.
• A 9-0 run early in the fourth quarter pushed the lead to 30 points.
• Deportivo’s bench closed the game with strong defensive possessions and efficient scoring.

Standout Performers

Santiago Moyano led Deportivo Norte with 19 points and seven rebounds, consistently winning one-on-one battles inside. Tomás Herrera added 14 points and five steals, while backup guard Lucas Benítez contributed 12 points and six assists. Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata’s leading scorer was Martín Aguirre with 11 points, but he received little help as the team finished with only eight assists as a unit.

Tactical Story

Deportivo Norte’s defensive pressure disrupted every layer of Gimnasia’s offense. The hosts pressed effectively in the backcourt, forced 18 turnovers and turned those mistakes into 24 points. On offense, Deportivo moved the ball patiently, attacking the paint when the defense overextended and converting open threes when the ball was reversed. Gimnasia’s lack of spacing made it easy for Deportivo to load up on the strong side and close down driving lanes.

Season Impact

This was the kind of statement victory that can shape a Liga Nacional campaign. Deportivo Norte’s defensive identity is becoming clear, and their ability to protect home court will be vital in the playoff race. For Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata, the loss raises immediate questions about shot creation and ball security. They will need a far more efficient offensive performance in their next outing to avoid a prolonged slide.
