Ciclista defeated Quilmes 88-80 in the Argentina Liga Nacional, using a balanced offensive attack and a strong second-half response to secure a home victory. The game featured plenty of scoring and momentum swings, but Ciclista’s ability to execute in the fourth quarter made the difference.

Quilmes kept the contest close with sharp perimeter shooting and aggressive drives to the basket, but Ciclista answered each challenge with timely baskets and defensive stops. The eight-point final margin was built on efficient shot selection, rebounding and composure at the free-throw line.

Match overview

Ciclista started brightly, moving the ball well and finding open shooters against Quilmes’ rotating defense. Quilmes responded with a more physical approach, attacking the rim and drawing fouls. The first half was played at a quick pace, with both teams trading baskets and neither able to establish a significant lead.

The third quarter brought a shift in momentum. Ciclista tightened its defense and began to control the defensive glass, limiting Quilmes’ second-chance points. That platform allowed Ciclista to build a modest lead entering the final period. Quilmes made a late push, but Ciclista’s half-court execution and free-throw shooting held them off.

Key moments

• Ciclista closed the first half with a three-pointer to take a narrow lead into the break.
• Quilmes opened the third quarter with a quick 6-0 run, forcing Ciclista to call timeout.
• Ciclista responded with a decisive 12-3 burst, highlighted by back-to-back transition baskets.
• In the final two minutes, Ciclista converted key free throws and forced a turnover to seal the win.

Tactical story

Ciclista’s offensive balance was the key to the victory. The home side shared the ball effectively, created quality looks from beyond the arc and attacked the paint when Quilmes overcommitted on the perimeter. Their ability to score from multiple positions made it difficult for Quilmes to settle into a defensive rhythm.

Quilmes’ best stretches came when they played with pace and forced Ciclista into turnovers. However, their half-court offense became stagnant at times, relying on individual plays rather than consistent ball movement. Ciclista’s defensive adjustments in the second half—particularly their rebounding and help defense—limited Quilmes’ clean looks and helped control the closing stages.

Standout performers

Ciclista’s backcourt provided scoring and playmaking, while the frontcourt contributed crucial rebounds and interior defense. Quilmes received strong individual efforts from their guards, but the team’s overall shooting cooled in the fourth quarter. Ciclista’s bench also played a valuable role, providing energy and timely baskets that kept the home side in front.

League impact

The 88-80 win is an important result for Ciclista in the Argentina Liga Nacional, strengthening their standing and giving them momentum in a competitive season. Quilmes will take encouragement from their offensive spells but will focus on late-game execution and rebounding. In a league where home form can shape the playoff race, Ciclista’s ability to close out a tight game is a promising sign.
